The Titans' latest performance has caught the attention of owner Bud Adams.

And not for good reason. At all.

Following the team's embarrassing 51-20 loss to the Bears on Sunday, a disgusted Adams delivered a message to the entire organization: get better or get out.

"In my 50 years of owning an NFL franchise, I am at a loss to recall a regular-season home game that was such a disappointment for myself and fans of the Titans," Adams said, via The Tennessean. "We were grossly outcoached and outplayed from start to finish today.

"At this time, all aspects of the organization will be closely evaluated, including front office, coaches and players over the next seven games. If performance and competitiveness does not improve, I will look at all alternatives to get back to having the Titans become a playoff and championship football team."

Barring a miraculous turnaround, the Titans, 3-6, are all but out of the postseason race. If wholesale changes do occur, one of the first victims would be head coach Mike Munchak, who knows the writing may be on the wall.

“If a team underperforms, I’m the first guy you should look at for that, not anybody else, not assistant coaches, it starts with me,” Munchak said. “If we don’t finish this season the way it should, then what needs to happen will happen. Sure it starts with me, I’m the head coach. …

“We’re getting ahead of ourselves here — we’ve got seven games to play, so we’ll worry about what it means when we see how we finish up. We didn’t coach well, we didn’t play well and obviously we got beat by a very good football team today.”

It's not that the Titans have just been bad in 2012 ... they've been really, really bad. Whether it's due to running back Chris Johnson's extraordinarily slow start or a defense that's already allowed 308 points, Tennessee is scraping the bottom of the NFL barrel, and its players seem like they're simply going through the motions.

The loss to Chicago, in which the Titans were trailing 28-2 through one quarter of play, highlighted the club's many deficiencies and non-competitive nature. It was so off-putting that Adams actually left the stadium and headed home after the third quarter.

Seriously.

“I am upset with how we are playing and what we are doing,” he said. “I just can’t be flying up there to see that happen.”

The remaining games basically constitute an open audition for those wanting to retain their jobs in 2013. Though, if things continue at the current pace, Adams is fully ready to play judge, jury, and executioner.
