Terrell Owens is giving it another try as a professional sports team owner, this time opting for pins over pigskins. The former Dallas Cowboys receiver is the proud owner of the Dallas Strikers of the Professional Bowlers Association League. The PBA League kicks off its inaugural season on Sunday at Thunderbird Lanes in suburban Detroit. Owens won't play for his team, unlike his recent venture into arena football when he had a partial ownership stake in the Allen Wranglers. But he is a 190-average bowler and has always had an interest in the sport. "I want to keep that competitive edge by getting involved with a sport I really enjoy," Owens said in a story posted on the PBA web site. "I always felt that my time in Dallas was special and I had a great time while I was there. Hopefully we can put Dallas back on the map with a bowling championship." While it's arguable that Dallas ever left the sports map, or that bowling can get it back on there, Owens' team does have a formidable lineup. PBA Hall of Famer Norm Duke is the franchise player and is joined by another Hall of Famer in Amleto Monacelli. Also on the squad are three-time PBA Tour winner Rhino Page, two-time winner Mike Machuga and 2003 USBC Masters winner Bryon Smith. "Norm's a good friend and a great bowler, so I have a lot of confidence in him leading the team," Owens said. "I'll be anxious to see how we do." Owens is one of eight celebrity owners in the new PBA League. Other owners include former Steelers running back Jerome Bettis with the Motown Muscle, former Steelers linebacker LaMarr Woodley with the Pittsburgh Jack Rabbits, L.A. Clippers guard Chris Paul with the L.A. X, tennis great Billie Jean King with the New York City WTT KingPins, Grey's Anatomy star Jessie Williams with the Brooklyn Styles, comedian and TV host Chris Hardwick with the Silver Lake Atom Splitters and actorcomedian Kevin Hart with the Philadelphia Hitmen. In addition to Sunday's televised debut, the PBA League's prelimary rounds will be taped this weekend. The top four teams advance to the PBA League Elias Cup Finals in Indianapolis on March 31, and will be aired April 7. Follow Keith Whitmire on Twitter: @Keith_Whitmire
