Dennis Allen filled another vacancy in his coaching staff on Wednesday after he hired Tony Sparano to be his offensive line coach and assistant head coach.
In 2012, Sparano was the offensive coordinator for the Jets but was sacrificed by Rex Ryan as the fall guy for their comically atrocious offense and season.
Before his lone year in New York, Sparano, who has 30 years of coaching experience, was previously the Dolphins head coach during four seasons from 2008 to 2011.
Sparano could be seen as responsible for the Wildcat package’s emergence in the NFL. During his time coaching the Dolphins, they were the first team to effectively use the offensive wrinkle on a consistent basis, resulting in many teams playing copycat.
With Sparano on board, don’t be surprised if the Raiders implement the Wildcat, playing to the strengths of Darren McFadden and Terrelle Pryor.
