Pictured above: Derrick Johnson, Justin Houston, and Tamba Hali at the Pro Bowl Since 2011, the NFL Players get together to vote for who they think the best 100 players in the NFL are. Each offseason, this list is presented weekly by the NFL Network and they have a reactions show after each episode to discuss each player’s ranking and who might have got the short end of the stick. Well, I’m here to discuss the members of the Kansas City Chiefs that have had the honor of making the list this year, but first let’s take a look at the players that made the list the first two years they have done this. In 2011, 5 Chiefs were voted onto the Top 100, these players were Eric Berry(93), Brian Waters(67), Tamba Hali(64), Dwayne Bowe(45), and Jamaal Charles(33). However in 2012 the Chiefs had a numbers dropoff with only two players making the list. Part of this could be because of the torn ACLs that Charles and Berry faced, but the two players to make the list in 2012 were Derrick Johnson(78) and Tamba Hali(34). Now the Chiefs that made the 2013 Top 100 NFL Players: 75. Brandon Flowers CB -This is the first year that Flowers cracks the Top 100 list. Coming in as the first Chief on the list, Flowers is getting more recognition by the players and to some fans around the league, he is considered a top 5 cornerback. However, he is ranked the 7th best cornerback behind Tim Jennings, Darrelle Revis, Champ Bailey, Richard Sherman, Charles Tillman, and Patrick Peterson. Flowers accumulated 40 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 fumble recovery, and 3 interceptions. The Virginia Tech product is looking to have another good year in 2013 and expects to raise in the ranks of the top 100 list come this time next offseason. 65. Dwayne Bowe WR -This is Bowe’s second year appearing on this list, dropping off 20 spots from the 2011 list when he was ranked 45, but an improvement from not even making the 2012 list. In 2012, Bowe played in only 13 games due to injuries and reeled in 59 receptions for a total of 801 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns. Due to the injuries, Bowe put up career low numbers in near every category. Bowe is ranked 12th out of all the receivers on the list behind the likes of Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green, Andre Johnson, and Larry Fitzgerald. With a new QB and new contract, Bowe is expecting to have a rebound year in 2013. 59. Derrick Johnson MLB -Johnson appears on the list for the second straight year as he rises 19 spots to 59. His 2012 statline looks like this: 110 tackles, 2 sacks, and 4 forced fumbles. Derrick is the number 3 inside linebacker on this list behind two San Francisco 49ers NaVorro Bowman and Patrick Willis. Johnson has finally been starting to peak in his career the last couple of years as he is already 30 years old. I personally still remember him playing in the burnt orange and white as a Texas Longhorn and am glad I have been able to watch him flourish in the NFL after struggling early on in his career. 49. Justin Houston OLB -In only his second year in the league, Houston has climbed into the top half of the Top 100 players list. Playing on the other side of Tamba Hali, Houston received less attention in his first two years and was able to take advantage racking up 15.5 sacks in two years, 10 of them coming just in last year. Also, 2012 was the first year that the young outside linebacker was able to make the Pro Bowl solidifying 3 Chiefs linebackers being invited to Hawaii. Houston is the fifth best outside linebacker on the list ranking behind Aldon Smith, Von Miller, Demarcus Ware, and Clay Matthews. With more attention being focused on Houston this year, it’ll be interesting to see if he can have as good of a year as he did in 2012. 20. Jamaal Charles RB -Coming in as the best Chief ranked on the list, Charles is no doubt deserving of this ranking. Currently the NFL’s all-time leader in yards per carry(5.9), Charles is coming off a year where he was only a year removed from a torn ACL yet still was able to rush for a career best 1,509 yards and on top of that had 5 rushing touchdowns to his name also. Charles is a very versatile back and will be expecting to have a very explosive 2013 season with the new offensive scheme put in by new head coach Andy Reid. I would not be surprised at all to see Charles join the list of players to rush for 2000 yards in the upcoming season. Well there you have it, five Kansas City Chiefs managed to crack the NFL Top 100 Players List in 2013 and don’t be surprised to see the same amount if not more when the 2014 list is revealed. There was a couple of snubs from this list in my opinion as I think that Tamba Hali and Eric Berry rank as some of the best at their respected positions in the league, but apparently the players thought differently. As both former members of the Top 100 lists, don’t be surprised to see Berry and Hali back on the list in 2014.

CB Brandon Flowers thinks the Chiefs could have the best secondary in NFL

After a 2-14 season hope springs eternal with a new coach in Andy Reid, a new quarterback in Alex Smith and a new secondary, expectations are high in Kansas City. Just call him Mr. Incognito.Dwayne Bowe has managed to stay consistently lukewarm in league circles despite six years of play that has ranged from respectable to outright jaw-dropping.Never has he failed to eclipse 990 receiving yards or five touchdowns after playing in 16 games, a feat that he has accomplished four times. His 15 touchdowns in 2010 trails only Calvin Johnson for the...

13 Days to Camp: Smith’s Chip

When the Kansas City Chiefs acquired quarterback, Alex Smith, he came to our fair town with a chip the size of the Rock of Gibraltar. So can he turn that chip into a championship Avalanche?

Previewing the Offense

That man pictured above is Jamaal Charles. Last year Charles was arguably the lone bright spot of the Chiefs offensive attack. Last year Charles rushed for over 1500 yards and caught 35 passes for over 200 yards with a total of six touchdowns on the season. Now usually if you saw that a guy rushed for over 1500 yards that he would probably have good touchdown numbers. However, that...
