Indianapolis Colts players will report tomorrow in Anderson for the 2014 training camp. No position will be more stacked than the one of linebacker. The Colts transitioned into the 3-4 defensive scheme when Chuck Pagano was hired in 2012. Since then, fans and critics alike have been concerned to see how the team would transition from the traditional 4-3 they had ran the previous ten plus years. Prior to the start of Pagano’s fist season they signed CFL star Jerell Freemean in hopes of finding the long-term anchor at inside linebacker. In his first two seasons he has shown he was meant to play in the NFL. He has totaled 271 tackles, 7.5 sacks, seven forced fumbles, and three interceptions. Making him one of the most productive linebackers in the league. Score one for the Colts. For this season the Colts have brought in D’Qwell Jackson, a nine year starter with the Cleveland Browns, who has amassed over 800 career tackles. He brings veteran leadership and an experience level with the 3-4 defense to the team. He was won of the biggest offseason signing for Ryan Grigson, and the Colts. Robert Mathis might be facing a four game suspension, but the reigning NFL sack leader, will be at top form come week five. Bjoern Werner will look to improve from his dismal rookie campaign and start in his place. And word from Colts camp is that he is the breakout player of the year so far. As for depth behind the rest, Kelvin Sheppard, Erik Walden, and Daniel Adonbo all look to see significant playing time in Greg Manusky’s defense. Making this the most interesting group on defense to watch in training camp.
