We’ve been slacking a bit with our film breakdowns the past few weeks here at TOJ, so we are hitting you with a double dose in the next 24 hours. In this article, I will look at all of Greg McElroy’s dropbacks from his first NFL action this past Sunday. Chris Gross will also provide his regular terrific defensive film breakdown shortly after.
On to McElroy…
1. 2nd and 6 at ARZ 43 yard line – Incomplete To Stephen Hill - The Jets ran a stop and go on each side of the formation out of a standard 2 wide receiver, one tight end look. Jeremy Kerley was out to the right and Hill was out to the left with Cumberland working over the middle. Pre-snap Kerley faced press coverage from Patrick Peterson and Hill had William Gay playing about 7 yards off him. The Cardinals had a one-high safety look, with three linebackers dropping into coverage in the middle of the field, taking away the deep in-route from Cumberland. McElroy makes the right read here but instead of floating the ball deep, he sh...

Surprise hero Greg McElroy described himself as an even keeled player to reporters after the Jets 7-6 comeback win over Arizona. During a post game press room scene that rarely calls for the thoughts of any third string quarterback. With second stringer Tim Tebow out nursing broken ribs, and embattled starter Mark Sanchez floundering late in the third quarter, head coach Rex Ryan...

Greg McElroy probably won Jets starting QB job with one offensive drive
After throwing three interceptions on 21 attempts with zero touchdowns and a fan base that has totally come down on him, the Jets finally pulled Mark Sanchez in favor of second year QB Greg McElroy. And in the very short time McElroy was given to prove himself running the Jets offense, the young QB out [...]
Rex Ryan may stick with Greg McElroy as Jets’ starting quarterback
Rex Ryan indicated after the New York Jets’ 7-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday that he may stick with Greg McElroy as the team’s starting quarterback.
McElroy replaced Sanchez in the third quarter of the game and threw a touchdown pass on his first drive. That was all the Jets needed to win.
Addressing the media in his postgame news conference, Ryan made it seem like...
McElroy's TD pass wins it for Jets
Third-stringer Greg McElroy stepped in for a struggling Mark Sanchez and energized the New York Jets to a 7-6 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Report: Jets owner prefers Greg McElroy over Mark Sanchez
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Jets owner Woody Johnson prefers to have Greg McElroy start over Mark Sanchez.. Head coach Rex Ryan and general manager Mike Tannebaum however want Sanchez back under center this week.
I’m told owner Woody Johnson prefers Greg McElroy to be starting QB. GM Mike Tannenbaum & OC Tony Sparano prefer Mark Sanchez this week...
McElroy ends suffering under Sanchez
All season long, Jets fans have clamored for head coach Rex Ryan to demote quarterback Mark Sanchez, and on Sunday, they finally got their wish -- even if the guy who finally supplanted the struggling fourth-year starter wasn't the replacement they were hoping for.
After nearly three quarters of yet another unfortunate showing by Sanchez, Ryan decided that Sanchez's downward...
Jets Fan Made Customized “Buttfumble” Jersey
I’m loving New York Jets fans this season. They haven’t given up on this team, they just continue to get more passionate. This “Buttfumble” jersey was spotted in the crowd during yesterday’s victory over the Cardinals in which Mark “Buttfumble” Sanchez was benched in favor of Greg McElroy. McElroy threw the winning touchdown pass in the 4th quarter giving his Jets...
Rex Ryan does not feel that loyalty to Mark Sanchez will cost him his job
When New York Jets coach Rex Ryan benched his quarterback Mark Sanchez on Sunday he made a statement.
Initially the statement seemed to be ‘forget Sanchez and Tim Tebow, I am going with the kid that went to Alabama: Greg McElroy.’
That thought was confirmed as a misfire on Wednesday when Ryan declared that he would return to Sanchez to start this Sunday’s game against the...
Jets owner Woody Johnson would like McElroy to start
All year long we’ve heard about the QB situation in New York. It’s either been Mark Sanchez or Tim Tebow.
But now, following Sanchez’ benching vs. Arizona, a new name has risen, and that’s Greg McElroy. The Jets’ seventh round pick from the University of Alabama was thrown into the spotlight Sunday after Rex Ryan benched Mark Sanchez (The one and only time Tim Tebow was...
Mark Sanchez Benched for Greg McElroy As Jets Beat Cardinals
Rex Ryan finally figured out what everyone else in the world already knew — if you bench Mark Sanchez, the Jets will win. And win they did.
Granted, the Jets’ 7-6 victory came over the lowly Cardinals — led by overwhelmed rookie Ryan Lindley — but at this point, a win is a win. The Jets were trailing 3-0 midway through the third quarter when Ryan made the change from Sanchez...
Without using a ‘little more time,’ Rex Ryan needs to forever shelve Mark Sanchez in favor of Greg McElroy
After mercifully benching the inept Mark Sanchez with 4:48 remaining in the third quarter, third-string quarterback Greg McElroy led the New York Jets to an unsightly 7-6 victory over the floundering Arizona Cardinals yesterday in front of a sparse crowd … Continue reading →
No Huddle – New York Jets Quarterback Switch Edition
No game this entire season was as exciting as the 7-6 “thriller” was for us yesterday. The exit of a struggling QB and the entrance of an unblemished one, got us up off of our seat and screaming as if it were the 2009 or 2010 playoff runs all over again.
Never mind that we were going hoarse over a few meager third and manageable completions. That came courtesy of a guy who had...
Making Sense Of The New York Jets Quarterback Mess
New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan will likely announce a decision on his starting quarterback within the next 24 hours. There have been various reports on who prefers who in the Jets hierarchy, but at this point who can really trust any sources from this organization?
We know this much, it isn’t going to be Tim Tebow. Rex Ryan, Mike Tannenbaum and the entire coaching staff have...
Jets 7, Cardinals 6
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Greg McElroy made his NFL debut after Mark Sanchez was benched following three miserable quarters and capped his first drive with a one-yard touchdown pass to Jeff Cumberland on the first play of the fourth quarter as the New York Jets edged the Arizona Cardinals, 7-6, in a remarkable battle of offensive ineptitude Sunday afternoon. McElroy went 5-for-7...
