In his last seven games, San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis has certainly struggled. With just six catches for 61 yards and no touchdowns, one could understand why the tight end might be frustrated with his play. He elaborated via the Associated Press. “It is a different feeling for me because it’s been a tough season as far as just the feeling of being involved,” said Davis. “To me, it’s not a bad thing, because it’s something I had to get used to this year. Each and every season in the past, I’m used to helping the team in ways where I’m just catching balls and things like that. This year’s been a little bit different. It just feels different going into these playoffs, as far as my role and things like that. It’s not a bad thing, I’m not mad at it. That’s just how it is sometimes. It takes a little getting used to.” The 49ers will need all hands on deck with their upcoming playoff match-up with the Green Bay Packers. Davis need not focus on the past, but make sure he is completely focused on helping his team in whatever way he can.

49ers look to get Vernon Davis involved in the offense again

Vernon Davis in the 2011 playoffs came up big, playing his best games in the spotlight. However, in 2012 after a hot start for the talented tight end, teams began game planning for him forcing the 49ers offensive minds to start utilizing other options. Jim Harbaugh and the 49ers know they are going to need Davis going forward since he hasn’t been much of a factor the past 11...

David Akers wins 49ers kicking competition

The 49ers have been holding a kicking competition for the last six days to determine who would be the team’s placekicker against the Packers and potentially moving forward in the playoffs. In one corner you have David Akers, who has been having the worst season of his 14-year career. In the other you have Billy Cundiff, who was signed by the Niners last week to compete with Akers...

Crabtree making strides on and off field for 49ers

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JANIE McCAULEY AP Sports Writer Michael Crabtree realizes the moment he starts thinking about just how much zip is coming on each pass from Colin Kaepernick, that's when he might wind up missing the ball. This playmaking, go-to tandem is on quite a roll for the San Francisco 49ers, and they are determined to keep it that...

49ers' Crabtree fixed on redemption

49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree has a bad taste in his mouth. It's there as a result of the way his -- and the 49ers' -- 2012 season ended. One catch, three yards and a disappointing loss to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship Game. With a chance for redemption Saturday against Green Bay, Crabtree's focus is on one thing. "I'm really focused...

David Akers Will Be The 49ers’ Kicker On Sunday

Jim Harbaugh announced that David Akers will be the team’s kicker for this weekend’s matchup against the Green Bay Packers, per Cam Inman. Harbaugh added that Billy Cundiff will remain on their roster despite losing out to Akers this week. It’s been a pretty interesting year for Akers to say the least. He’s gone from tying the NFL record for the longest field goal in league...

Report: Justin Smith might not play full game vs Packers

According to Eric Branch of Blog.sfgate.com, 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio will evaluate his defensive end, Justin Smith, under close his supervision on Saturday evening. Fangio will pull Smith out of the Divisional playoff game if his defensive end is not performing up-to-par. “If, from my point of view, he’s not playing up to his standard or close to it, we’ll put...

Packers aim to match 49ers' physicality

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The physicality of the San Francisco 49ers cannot be questioned. With a defense that ranked second this season in points allowed and third in yards allowed, the 49ers have one of the NFL's elite groups. The Green Bay Packers, on the other hand, are getting plenty of those questions leading into Saturday night's divisional round playoff game. It's been...

NFC Divisional Round: Packers @ 49ers Preview & Prediction

As the divisional round of the playoffs liftoff this Saturday evening, we’ll be getting the exact match up I thought we would a few weeks ago; only the venue will be different. I thought the Pack had the second seed wrapped up, but instead they’ll travel with the third seed in better weather conditions to face the team that got the second seed in the San Francisco 49ers at Candlestick...

49ers more prepared for playoffs this time

(Eds: APNewsNow. Will be updated. With AP Photos.) By JANIE McCAULEY AP Sports Writer Andy Lee's nerves came on a full day before San Francisco's playoff opener a year ago, not just leading up to his first punt as is typical each game. Tight end Vernon Davis was surprised at his butterflies stepping onto the NFL's big stage for the first time, too. Last January, most...
