EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. The Minnesota Vikings have released backup running back Caleb King after he was arrested and jailed Saturday for allegedly fracturing a 22-year-old males skull in a fight at a mutual friends party. Anoka County prosecutors spokesman David Cossi said King, 24, was released from jail Tuesday with no charges, though the case remains under investigation.Vikings general manager Rick Spielman said Saturday that he was aware of the allegations and offered no further comments about King until he learned more about the case. Cornerback Chris Cook was acquitted of domestic abuse-strangulation charges in March and was allowed to return to the team following the acquittal, but Spielman didnt wait for a final verdict this time around. "We take each situation as it comes in and evaluate it and make decisions of where we feel that player is," Spielman said Saturday at his post-draft press conference. "And if its a risk or something that we don't want to deal with, then well deal with it. But were not the only NFL team that has its situations. We try to prevent those because its very important to what were trying to build here, and you just have to deal with them when they come and make decisions based off that." According to the Anoka County Sheriff's office, King was at a birthday party for a female friend and came in contact with a 22-year-old male from Coon Rapids who had "teased King about his resemblance to a celebrity." After the alleged victim left the party and waited outside for a ride, according to authorities, King confronted the man and struck him in the face. The alleged victim locked himself in a car and called 911, the sheriff's office said, but King opened another door and pulled the man out of the car. "The victim alleges that King struck him multiple times about the head and face with his fists and threw him, head first to the ground," the sheriff's office said. King, who was arrested without incident, denies assaulting the victim. According to the sheriff's office, King said "the victim simply fell to the ground when King was talking to him." King spent most of last season on Minnesota's practice squad after signing with the Vikings. He was a free agent after not being selected in the NFL supplemental draft. He was promoted to the 53-man roster in December but was inactive for the season's final game.Follow Brian Hall on Twitter.
