Looks like Denver Broncos V.P. John Elway has some lofty expectations for rookie running back Montee Ball.
“His running style was a lot like Terrell Davis,” Elway said furing a conference call with fans, via the Denver Post. “We hope that Montee has a career and even a longer career than Terrell had.”
Davis was the man to carry the load and take the heat of of Elway towards the end of his career, and did it with much success. Now the Broncos are envisioning Ball to become that same guy to keep the pressure off of Peyton Manning in 2013 and beyond.
Ball actually was not their first choice in the draft. They liked Alabama RB Eddie Lacy a lot, but didn't like the potential risk that came with him. "We liked both these backs, we had them very similar on the board,” Broncos director of player personnel Matt Russell said durign the call. “The issue with Eddie Lacy was we were worried about a toe injury that he had which is probably what caused him to slip. And we really felt great about Montee Ball. We feel we have a career back in Montee Ball.”
