Week 1 was exceptionally exciting this year. The Steelers and Giants took care of business as expected. This article will break down the Week 1 winners who are here to stay. Here to stay: 1. Pittsburgh Steelers The Steelers came out on national television and looked as though they really haven't missed a beat. Other than the injury to Troy Polamalu, the Steelers look poised for a deep playoff run this winter. 2. New York Jets Rex Ryan seems to have his troops ready to go to war this year. The Brett Favre-less Jets look like a much better team than last year, I don't think the Jets Week 1 win was a fluke. I expect them to take care of the Patriots at home this week, and show the rest of the league that their defense will get them in the playoff hunt. The Jets are definately here to stay. 3. Indianapolis Colts Indianapolis pulled out a solid Week 1 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Without Tony Dungy we didn't see the same Colts team. The loss of Anthony Gonzalez will be huge. The Indianapolis defense will be making the headlines this year and the Colts are here to stay. 4. Dallas Cowboys Dallas Cowboys quarterback seemed to have taken Emmitt Smith's comments to heart as he came out and tore apart the Tampa Bay defense. I don't think Tampa Bay will be a very tough opponent in the NFC however, the Dallas Cowboys and their new jumbo scoreboard are here to stay. 5. New York Giants New York Giants played a tough game as always against the Redskins. They impressed me about as much as the Steelers did. I think we'll see these guys making another deep playoff run barring any serious injuries to their key players. The New York football Giants are definitely here to stay. 6. San Diego Chargers The San Diego Chargers had their hands full with the Oakland Raiders who showed no signs of backing down at home. Personally I think the Oakland Raiders played very well although maybe a little over their heads. Rivers showed some rust and LT didn't look like vintage LT. I still expect big things out of Rivers, (mostly since he's my fantasy QB), but out of desperation i'll say the Chargers ARE here to stay. 7. Minnesota Vikings Brett Favre will not have to throw his way into the playoffs this year and thats a good thing. It looks like Favre is a perfect fit for this offense led by Adrian Peterson. I'm looking for Peterson to put up insane numbers with teams having to also game play to control Brett Favre. We'll see that these Vikings are for real and will be fighting hard for the division. The Minnesota Vikings week one victory was no mistake, they are here to stay. 8. The Green Bay Packers I'm going to go out on a limb here, the Packers played an average game. I'm assuming that they were a bit rusty and perhaps a bit nervous for their first regular season game of the year. They beat the Bears but when Jay Cutler throws three picks in the first half the game should be OVER. The Bears did a nice job staying in this game and the Packers proved to me they can win close games. I was very impressed with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay play calling. These guys are going to cause some trouble this year in the NFC. The Green Bay Packers are here to stay.
