The Jets are about as unstable as unstable comes. The Dolphins are slightly more stable with worse players. Currently, the AFC East is a four way tie with all four teams currently 1-1. The Bills, however, can take a seat in last place after they were stomped out in Week 1 by these New York Jets. This is a tough game to call. It’s supposed to be raining which you think would be an advantage for the Dolphins because Reggie Bush has been playing like a top two pick ever since he got to Miami but the Jets do still have Shonn Green and Tim Tebow. Neither defense really wows me and neither team’s passing attack is anything to write home about so this game is as hard as possible for me to call. So, let’s wing it. I’m too tired to try to make this game funny. Also, this game won’t be funny. It will likely be sad. Mainly because one of these teams will likely get a win after it is played.

What the Jets Must Do in Order to Win This Game

I have a feeling Tim Tebow could be this years Chad Ochocinco in the AFC East. Every week last season we held our collective breath waiting for Ocho to explode and have a big game but it never came. Literally. Not once. He caught a touchdown. Great. But he never took a step towards becoming a regular in the grand scheme of the Patriots’ offense. Until I see otherwise, that may well be the case with Tebow. A weapon, no doubt, but the Jets have used him sparingly throughout the first two weeks of the season. I get that you don’t want to pull out all the stops in the earlygoings, but at what point do you realize you need to utilize what you have? Believe it or not this game may turn out to be a must win for the Jets. Yes, I understand it’s only Week 3 but looking ahead, it gets much more difficult before it gets easier. After traveling to Miami, the Jets get to host San Francisco, Houston, and Indianapolis before traveling to New England. Looking at that schedule modestly, one can only assume that they will go 1-3. There is a huge difference between 2-5 and 3-4. The Jets cannot be 2-5 heading into a Week 8 matchup against the Dolphins. They need to win this game and if that means pulling out all the stops, then sobeit. With the division this tight this early in the season, every win helps. Especially when you consider the Patriots have to play at Baltimore this week. Since the Pats are division favorites, getting a game in hand could prove massive come November while making the Week 7 trip to Foxboro that much less of a difference maker for NY. If the conditions are sloppy and the passing game isn’t getting the job done, the Jets need to grind it out with the running game. Why not use Green and Tebow as much as possible?

What the Dolphins Must Do in Order to Win This Game

Probably the most underrated part of rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill’s game is the fact that he can create with his legs. No, he is not Michael Vick, but he has the capability to scamper. Don’t forget, before Tannehill became the QB at Texas A&M, he was a wide receiver. He couldn’t possibly not be able to run and he proved that last week with a rushing touchdown. That opens up a bunch of different opportunities for the Dolphins in this game, especially if the conditions are going to be suspect. Reggie Bush is averaging 120 yards per game through the first two weeks of the season and if he keeps up this pace he may finish the year as one of the best rushers in the league. Not to get ahead of ourselves, but if Miami does win this game it will be because of Bush’s ability to move the chains and find the endzone. While the Jets defense isn’t as dominant as, say, two years ago, there are still playmakers on that side of the ball. It will not be easy for Bush to dominate this game but with Tannehill still developing and the weather calling for rain, the Dolphins are going to have to rely on the running game.

Final Prediction

17-14 New York Jets. I would not be surprised if the Dolphins won this game, but I am going with conventional wisdom. Unless the Jets are looking ahead a week, they will be prepared for this game. I don’t think this will be a high scoring affair for two reasons: 1) the weather. 2) Both of these offenses are horrible. Tannehill will likely throw a interception or three and the Jets will run one back. Maybe Tebow will score. Maybe he wont. I don’t know what you want from me. I’m no soothsayer, I just play one on the internet.
