Headline: Seahawks 4th round pick Yesterday Pete Carroll and John Schneider surprised everyone when they selected Texas A&M running back Christine Michael 62nd overall.  They made the selection after trading the 56th pick to Baltimore.  In that trade the Seahawks received the 62nd, 165th and 199th picks. After that I felt that the Seattle Seahawks absolutely had to draft a weak side linebacker in the fourth round.  Nope, they selected Penn State defensive tackle Jordan Hill. The third day of the draft started when the Seahawks drafted: Name: Chris Harper Position: Wide Receiver College: Kansas State Height: 6’1″ Weight: 229 lbs. 40 yard dash: 4.55 Chris Harper chosen 123rd overall in the 4th round Harper played a year at Oregon before heading to KSU. (Dean Hare/AP, Scott Sewell/US-Presswire) When the Seahawks were on the clock I was hoping that they would take a receiver.  Of course that receiver was Quinton Patton, but at least they went with the same position that I had in mind this time. Actually I love this pick.  As soon as Seattle makes their selection in any round I got back to my notes to see what I thought of the player before Seattle drafted him. Chris Harper impressed me. As you might know I was very high on Washington cornerback Desmond Trufant.  Before the Seahawks traded their 1st round pick for Percy Harvin, I wanted to see them select Trufant with the 25th pick.  At the Senior Bowl Chris Harper was matched up with Desmond Trufant in practice. On one play in particular, Trufant was in press coverage and Harper did an excellent job beating the 22nd pick in the draft.  He also has great hands and is one of those players who truly live by the mantra “If you can touch it, you can catch it.” Chris is not without his faults.  He seems to take plays off when the ball isn’t coming his way.  I haven’t seen much of a willingness to block in the running game, which is a bit of a concern for me.  Any player drafted at this point is going to have their faults, thats what a position coach gets paid to break. Like I said, this is a great pick by the Seahawks who needed to add depth at wide receiver.  The only loser here is probably Phil Bates who was going to be a long shot for the roster before this pick. On a side note, as I’m writing this the 49ers selected Quinton Patton at 129. The Seahawks still have 5 picks in this draft. Sixth: 26th, No. 194 overall Sixth: 31st, No. 199 overall (Trade when Ravens moved up from 62 to 56) Seventh: 14th, No. 220 overall (From Saints in Barrett Ruud trade) Seventh: 25th, No. 231 overall Seventh: 35th, No. 241 overall (Compensatory) Seventh: 36th, No. 242 overall (Compensatory) Go Seahawks!
