Eagles running back Brian Westbrook quietly had knee surgery after the 2008 season, a development first appearing on the Morning Call via an article from Chris Harry, who spent the weekend cranking out several stories and interviews in connection with "ESPN The Weekend" at the small country in Central Florida owned and operated by Disney.

The type of the knee surgery isn't specified, but it's presumably not something as drastic as ACL reconstruction or microfracture surgery. Per the report, Westbrook already has embarked on a "rigorous rehab."

"It's getting better all the time," Westbrook said of his knee.

Westbrook was injured throughout most of the 2008 season, primarily battling knee and ankle problems.

And even if he's at 100 percent when the 2009 season opens, he'll officially be on the wrong side of 30 once Week One commences. For a running back, it means that final press conference is coming sooner rather than later.
