Westbrook hurt again??

Posted June 02, 2009 on wild_eagle's Blog:
I was on Philadelphiaeagles.com and I saw an article that said that Westbrook's ankle is bothering him. They made sure to say that its not by any means related to his knee injury last year. Now the only problem I see is that he is "hurt" already. They're not even in contact drills and he's having trouble. I hope that by the begining of the season he is ok and has a very good year, but you have to think how many games he misses. My range is 1-3 games at most for him to miss, the good is that we have a promising young Westbrook-like RB in LeSean McCoy who could fill in and be effective. But we all must hope Westbrook doesnt miss any significant amout of time this season, and we must hope McCoy gets the play book down... Tell me what you think

  • I doubt he's even hurt.
  • Even if he is, it's probably something he picked up in his personal life. Twisted it slipping in his shower or whatever. A player can throw his back out lifting a couch, while rearranging his livingroom, and he'd never tell his team for fear of losing a start. That's why I never bet on sports.
  • No its on the website.. It said he did it during OTA's... they say its not serious but im worried because theyre not even in contact yet and hes getting hurt... plus I think its the same ankle that was causing problems last year before the knee injury
  • Same ankle. Bone spurs. His agent says if it were during the season he wouldn't be having the surgery. I think he's just using this as a legit excuse to skip camp. LOL! Vets HATE that crap. Picking up the injury at OTA's is bull. Do yourself a favor, look up bone spurs. They're usually caused by extra bone growth or calcium deposits. Either way they take TIME to happen. The report is a smokescreen. Remember these are the same people who with a straight face, call Dave Spadaro a journalist . Truth is not something they value sharing with fans.
  • thats a good point. But they now said its a high ankle sprain? that could be horrible... I hope McCoy learns fast and plays faster...
  • Running backs take a beating and the effects accumulate with years. It isn't the spirit that goes, its the legs. Westy should still have a couple more good seasons left in him but old war wounds will show up more frequently and take a little longer to heal. It's a good thing that there is a youngster that can start learning the system and give him a breather from time to time. This is not a good time for him to try and carry the whole load on his shoulders. A beefed up line and a real blocking fullback should help a lot as well. Fans should realize that the number on his jersey is not a big block "S".
  • Phillyogre, I couldn't have said it better myself.
  • i agree, the man has taken a beating. that`s why barry sanders retired early.
  • Barry Sanders retired early because he couldnt get out od detriot.
  • he never said that.
  • Barry Sanders was healthy & had at least 3 more years of being the best running back in the NFL. He did want out of Detroit. After he retired, he wanted to be released by the Lions (like Favre's release by the Jets) but Detroit wouldn't do it so they could block him for playing elsewhere (I always thought the Eagles had a shot if he was released). His dopey father was also giving him bad career advise from what I remember. What a waste.

  • I'm sick of Westbrook being injured all the time. Had he not disappeared in the playoffs we would of won the Super Bowl last year.
  • He showed up in the Minnesota game, I think NYG and the Cards just keyed in on him more, that's why Don and the receivers had great games... statistically.
  • it can't help having a q.b. who can't throw a 5 yr pass accurate enough to let him excel, having to go to your kness or jump for a 5 YRD PASS HURTS!
  • shut up. mcnabb has nothing to do with it.
  • weird, how B-West gets almost 1000 yards receiving every year, with a QB who can't throw a 5 yard pass. huh...
  • Westbrook has never come close to having a 1000 yards reveiving in a season!
  • i would have rather had E james than Westbrook in that playoff game.
  • he won the Vikings game for us... and he was OK for the rest, his knee was really giving him problems though.. I have E. James.
  • The main concern is that his knee is fine. (Which it is) His ankle is sore and he is missing a voluntary workout three plus months before the first game. No big deal. With McCoy and Weaver in the fold B-West touches will be less than in years past and he will be much fresher throughout the season. I can't wait to see what he can do while properly rested and significantly healthier than last year. Teams will not be able to focus on taking #36 out of the game with all the speed and talent the birds will have on display in this offense in 2009.
  • Westbrook is a poor mans marshall faulk. in the big game he just couldnt establish the inside run like faulk. faulk was devastating westbrook can be handled.
  • Does anyone else besides me think we should sign another RB just in case LeSean doesnt get it fast enough?
  • yes, especially if they keep that bum booker and not mendenhall.
  • Yes - it's a lot of pressure to put on someone so young, especially if Westbrook does have injuries
  • I think they should, but it's going to be tough keeping another with a 53 man roster.
  • I wish they would sign Deuce McAllister to help out. He'd be cheap, short-term, and a great compliment to LeSean & a healthy Westbrook. If he gets injured (which I realize there is a good chance of) or if Mendenhall beats him out it wouldn't cost the Eagles much to see what this big dude has left.
  • deuce is just as bad, he`s hurt all the time.
  • Ive been saying all along they need a RB that can pound the ball and slow things down.
  • i agree with you, but not deuce.
  • How bout Edge James,or that Arington that got cut by Denver, doesnt have to be a super star just a passable 2nd or 3rd string back.
  • who is out there worth getting? McCoy will get it im hoping at least... But if he doesnt then we could take hunt back, if we were to get someone who "knows the system" then Hunt would have to be the only choice... But maybe just maybe Booker can fill in some.. If Westy goes down I think McCoy gets the start and booker fills in here and there to keep him fresh.
  • he's a SPLINTER!
  • AS HIGH AND LOW AS MCCHOKE THROWS BALLS I'M SURPRISED HE DOESNT GET MORE GUYS HURT?
  • again, shut up mcnabb has nothing to do with it.
  • All that i know is Westbrook is the most stressfull player to have on your fantasy roster, every week for the last 3 years he was questionable, probable, or out. He always seems to play most of the time but im done drafting this dude in fantasy. I like watching him on the field more then i like him on my roster when i have to set my line up.
  • yeah, i get him all the time to. but i just bench him when he`s hurt. i`d rather the eagles win and me not win that week.
  • This is the main reason they picked by McCoy from Pitt. A veteran backup would be better, but there is no way of telling how bad this injury is. It could be something that is fine when the season starts or it could flare up again.
  • unless it's a TERRIBLE high ankle sprain, ( which it definitely isn't ), I don't see how 3 months won't bring it back 2 normal.
  • See, you try to be nice and sensible and you still get thumbed down. Oh well.
  • who got thumbed down, me or you?
