Three things to watch for in Friday night's Eagles-Panthers preseason game:
1. Cornerback Asante Samuel is scheduled to play the first half, his first action as an Eagle after missing the first few weeks of training camp with a hamstring problem. It's the preseason, but fans understandably are eager to get a look at Jeffrey Lurie's $57 million investment.
2. Wideout Reggie Brown, who sat out the preseason opener with a sore Achilles' tendon, wants to demonstrate that he is still on target for a much better start than he got off to last season.
3. Special teams coordinator Rory Segrest felt he had some young guys who tried to do too much at Pittsburgh, where the return game was especially disappointing. Segrest would really like to see punt returner DeSean Jackson or kick returner Lorenzo Booker reel off a big one, to set a tone and demonstrate the improvement Segrest expects from his units this season.
