The last four seasons in the Meadowlands have seen continued diminishing returns for Gang Green. Rex Ryan's arrival in New York was lauded by NFL fans and pundits alike, and it seemed as if the Jets were at long last, going to catch the Patriots in the AFC East on their way to New York's first Super Bowl appearance since Joe Namath led the team there following the 1968 season.  Yet a funny thing happened to the Jets on the way to their date with destiny, and after back to back AFC conference game appearances (and losses), the New York has receded back to the soft underbelly of the NFL, forced to slug it out with the Buffaloes and Oaklands, as opposed to locked in an epic struggle with the juggernauts of the NFL for league supremacy.  Much of the blame has fallen upon beleaguered quarterback Mark Sanchez, whom the Jets selected with the fifth overall pick of the 2009 NFL Draft. Sanchez came out of USC highly-touted, despite only starting one season, and his own coach saying t...

Rex Ryan lost a lot more weight (Photo)

It seems like every offseason New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan keeps losing more weight.  Well, now he looks even more slender. Check out the tweet from Bart Hubbuch of the New York Post. Not being sarcastic here: Rex Ryan’s weight loss is astounding. twitter.com/HubbuchNYP/sta… — Bart Hubbuch (@HubbuchNYP) May 14, 2013 Need NFL Tickets? The post Rex Ryan lost a lot...

Sanchez: Answer for the Jets?

Mark Sanchez has had more than his fair share of unfair scrutinizing. Does he deserve it sometimes? Yes, all quarterbacks do, but Sanchez gets bashed week in and week out, even for games he doesn’t blow. His case is more extreme than that of Tony Romo of the Dallas Cowboys. I am far from a Jets fan, but while I do not like them, they are a team that has hope for the future. 2009...

Steve Smith: “I wouldn’t let (Mark) Sanchez throw me a sandwich”

Photo credit: news.yahoo.com/AP Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith is well-known throughout the league for not biting his tongue in most situations, but thankfully he can usually back it up on the field. Also, he probably doesn’t have to worry about building chemistry with a new quarterback anytime soon, since Cam Newton is going to be the quarterback for the Panthers...

Idzik's Offensive Game Plan: Depth Along Front Line

It's been written about over and over, especially on this site, but it bears repeating again; the biggest difference between the first two years of the Rex Ryan era, that included two straight AFC Championship appearances, and the past two years of missing the playoffs was the quality and depth along the offensive line.Mark Sanchez struggles are well documented, but it was the...

Steve Smith rips New York Jets Mark Sanchez

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Steve Smith  has never held his tongue. Smith recently appeared on former teammate Muhsin Muhammad’s radio morning show on WFANZ. During the appearance, he teed off on New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez.  Please click here to read this story and listen to Smith's interview. Ryan impressed by Smith's early performance

Smith is putting the 'Diva' title behind him and is beginning to wow Rex Ryan and company with the way he can command an offense.

Sanchez says 'nothing's changed' with Garrard out

Mark Sanchez says ''nothing's changed'' in his approach to competing for the New York Jets' starting quarterback job even with David Garrard out of the mix. Garrard plans to retire because his balky left knee has continued to give him trouble, so that means the Jets' once-crowded quarterback room has one less player. With Garrard stepping away and New...

Doug's Digs Ninth Edition: It Just Keeps Getting Better

So, being an AFC East guy, I couldn't help but notice that Mark Sanchez is making some noise again. He claims that there is still a competition at quarterback in New York. I don't think there is a better option for the Jets right now, aside from the fact that his salary is his biggest asset right now. He did admit that he needs to get better, an understatement considering...

Steve Smith: Mark Sanchez sucks

Steve Smith remains as honest and outspoken as ever. The longtime Carolina Panthers wide receiver was co-hosting The Drive on WFNZ 610-AM in Charlotte on Thursday when he bashed Mark Sanchez. “He sucks,” Smith said simply. “I wouldn’t let Mark Sanchez throw me a paper bag sandwich,” he joked. (audio here) When asked about Smith’s remarks, Sanchez said, “I wish him...

Nearly trashed like a used Trojan, Mark Sanchez will survive thanks to David Garrard’s retirement

New York Jets quarterback David Garrard is moving to Del Boca Vista due to complications with his surgically-repaired knee. Although rusty, the 6-foot-1, 235 pound Garrard had a real opportunity to start Week 1 for the Jets against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 8. “My knee is not holding up,” Garrard, 35, texted NFL.com’s Adam Schein. “Continuing to swell after practices...

New York Jets – Formula For A Competitive Season?

The New York Jets are generally considered one of the worst, if not the worst team in the NFL as of right now. This is a hyperbole to an extent. Are the Jets a bottom ten team on paper? I think that it is a fair statement. Are they a shoe-in for a top five pick? I wouldn’t say so. Remember the 2012 Jets were 6-7 heading into their final three games, despite the league’s worst...

New York Jets De-Facto Quarterback Competition

The latest breaking news from the New York Jets compound is David Garrard's stay with the Jets is a brief one for this veteran QB, as he is not healthy enough to compete. So what's next? Mark Sanchez is a quarterback with some magic lucky mojo.  He's a guy who turned the ball over 26 times last season. A guy who played his way out of the starting job last season, yet...

Report: New York Jets “Smitten” With Geno Smith, Starting Job His To Lose

Rex Ryan reportedly needed the Jets to draft a quarterback to have any chance at saving his job.  The Jets chose Geno Smith in the second round, and its no surprise that Rex and the Jets are feeling lovey dovey. The New York Post is reporting that the Jets are “smitten” with Geno Smith, and so impressed with him after this weekends rookie minicamp, that it’s reportedly his...
