Recently, Quarterback legend and ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski made a list of the top thirty QB'S in the league today. Many were interested in why Chargers Quarterback Philip Rivers was placed where he was (7th). Many of the fans obviously thought he should be much higher on the list.

Was QB Philip Rivers assessed fairly on where he was placed on Jaws list?

I will be taking the fans stance in that he was not treated fairly in the assessment.

When you look at who is ahead of Philip Rivers, you may notice one common denominator about everyone ranked before Rivers.

All top six ranked QB's have 1 or more Super Bowl rings. But Rivers was the highest ranked QB without a ring, that should be a compliment to him that he is the best without a ring, right?

Wrong, the list fails to account for, to me, is the actual skill of the QB rather than the team they had around them, and it also fails to ignore hype of the QB.

When it comes to pure skill of the Quarterbacks, Jaws has the list out of order.

In 2011, Big Ben and Eli had only a slightly better QB rating than rivers did. Though Ben Roethlisberger had his suspsension to deal with at the beginning of the season and still got very high on the stat sheet. I think that they have been all very comparable in their years since the draft. You could organize it a few different ways, they are all amazing QB's and deserve top ten no doubt. I think if you aren't using championships as a rubric for their grading, I think it is ordered Roethlisberger, Rivers, Manning.

That is not the main issue I have with Jaws' list.

QB Peyton Manning was rated at number four despite missing an entire season and not even knowing if he will be the same legendary Petyon Manning that we saw in Indianapolis. No Quarterback should break the top ten when taking off a whole year because of something as serious as a neck injury. Like I said about Eli and Ben, Peyton is a phenomenal thrower and has been a game changer, but no Quarterback should make the top five (or even top ten) with missing an entire season and looking into the next unsure.

If I were to make a top ten I would order it:

  1. Tom Brady
  2. Aaron Rodgers
  3. Drew Brees
  4. Eli Manning
  5. Philip Rivers
  6. Ben Roethlisberger
  7. Joe Flacco
  8. Matt Ryan
  9. Jay Cutler
  10. Peyton Manning

Many still think Rivers was rated much too highly on this list. Haters may need to buckle up for a bumpy ride the 2012 season because Rivers will be looking to take his first ring and show the NFL why he deserves to be among the top names.

Don’t Sleep On: Philip Rivers

I'm calling a mulligan T... 2011 Recap: Many would think that Rivers season was a disaster, but he finished as the #8 fantasy QB in points per game. The problem was his ADP was 4th for QBs and when Newton...
