After being waived by the San Francisco 49ers in order to make room for WR Mario Manningham and CB Eric Wright. I expect a short time away from football for the 10 year veteran. Several teams in the league are struggling with the cornerback position and I look for quite a few to make a strong push for the shutdown corner. The New York Giants could be in high pursuit for Asomugha. The Giants have been struggling and everybody knows it. Asomugha would make a huge impact to a defense that has been borderline awful. Another team that could possibly make a inquiry for the veteran cornerback is the Pittsburg Steelers. I just don’t feel like they have the same defense that won the Super Bowl in 2008. Asomugha has the potential to step right in and become a starter alongside Ike Taylor. The Oakland Raiders are another possibility. Not to mention they drafted Asomugha in the 1st round of the 2003 draft. They brought in a old face in Charles Woodson and now they could potentially bring back another old face to help solidify their defense.I mean Asomugha did have his best days in Oakland. Now, all these teams need cornerbacks so I see no reason why they wouldn’t make a push for Asomugha. Several other teams could also make a push for the veteran within the next couple of days.
