“While We’re Waiting” serves as the early morning gathering of WFNY-esque information for your viewing pleasure. Have something you think we should see? Send it to our tips email at tips@waitingfornextyear.com. “Baseball’s a long season, and we got a lot of baseball to play,” said Brantley, performing what may have been a double salchow cliché and nailing the landing. “It’s going to be fun this year.” Brantley, it turns out, is a living example of a baseball bromide that may even be older than the clubhouse cliché and the Cleveland Molly Maguires. In 2008, he was part of the deal that pried CC Sabathia out of Cleveland. He was truly the Wretched of the Earth. “I,” said Michael Brantley proudly, “was the player to be named later.” [Pierce/Grantland] —- The Greg Little film room- “At times throughout his two year NFL career, Little has shown the ability to make amazing acrobatic catches but he has also shown that he sometimes loses focus or concentration resulting in drops – sometimes on wide open, routine plays. Little doesn’t show the ability to sink his hips during routes and moves more upright at times. He doesn’t possess blazing speed so his route running and technique will need to continue to improve. That being said, Little will be challenged to learn yet another group of route concepts this year under Coach Turner and so far, he seems to feel like the new system is a wide receivers dream.” [Krupka/Dawgs By Nature] —- Inside the making of the ‘Decision’, where Kanye fell asleep- “Inside of the Boys and Girls Club, we started setting up inside of what looked like the gym from Hoosiers. I had no idea how the space was going to hold LeBron, his big decision, and the backlash that would eventually rain down from the sports media heavens. At the time, I was unaware that rich neighborhoods even had Boys and Girls Clubs. What are they at risk for after school?” [Cox/Fansided] —- LB preview- “My big question for Sheard boils down to how well he will do when he has to drop back into coverage. For me, it’s one of those things that I’m really not confident in evaluating until we see how he does during the regular season. Sheard shouldn’t have to completely abandon his 4-3 experience, though. The Browns will continue to go with some four-man fronts in Ray Horton’s defense, and when that happens, I’d expect Sheard to be one of those outside guys with his hand on the ground. Sheard’s job security isn’t as as high because of the fact that Barkevious Mingo, the team’s 6th overall pick, is behind him on the depth chart. There is no doubt these guys will work in a rotation, but if Sheard’s transition doesn’t go so well, does Mingo’s playing time continue to increase as the season progresses?” [Pokorny/Dawgs by Nature] —- Some of Kanick’s predictions- “Alex Mack will win his game of chicken with Banner and become UFA ultimately signing somewhere else for more than Max Unger. TJ Ward’s tackling will be exposed as a liability. Marecic will start and be not good. The greatness of Phil Dawson will be even more appreciated. Norv Turner will frustrate fans in the same way he has in every stop since his time with the 93 Cowboys. Ray Horton will take a head coaching job within a week after the end of the season. Two meaningless wins at end of season will get browns to six wins and Banner will proclaim progress. The front office will preach patience.” [Kanick]
