If there was ever a great example of a chicken running around with its head cut off, it's the New York Jets' quarterback situation for the past few seasons. Mark Sanchez was the fifth overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft. In order to obtain the fifth overall pick, the Jets traded away two draft picks and three players. Tim Tebow, whom the Jets desperately want to get rid of now, was apparently worth trading away a fourth-round and sixth-round pick and giving the Denver Broncos over $2.5 million.Tebow was acquired to give the Jets a more dynamic offense by implementing him in the running game. Many teams were successful with running quarterbacks last season, including the Redskins, the Seahawks, and the 49ers. However, for Gang Green, Tebow played 12 games (started 2) and ran for 102 yards over 32 attempts (that's less than 3 attempts per game) and completed 6 out of 8 passes for 39 yards during the 2012 season. Many football fans across the nation finally lost all hope for the New York Jets when they decided to trade for Tebow. Tebow is the straw that broke the horse's back. Let us not ignore the fact that Sanchez, at the time, was recently signed to a contract extension which included $40 million in new money and over $20 million between 2012 and 2013.Before giving away their first two picks for Sanchez in 2009, the Jets had already traded away that year's third-round pick to acquire Brett Farve. So since the 2008 season, the Jets' front office has traded away, a first-round pick, a second-round pick, a third-round pick, a fourth-round pick, a sixth-round pick, $2.5 million, and three players for three QBs. That almost equates to an entire season's draft picks! And what did those quarterbacks get the Jets? No Super Bowl wins and no AFC East Division Title. Farve left after playing one season, Tebow is on the trading block after his one season on the bench, and most Jets fans wish that Sanchez would leave too.The Packers traded their third-round pick, that they acquired in the Farve trade, in a deal to the Patriots for the draft pick that got them line backer Clay Mathews. The Patriots then used that draft pick to obtain wide receiver/kick returner Brandon Tate. The first-round pick traded for Sanchez was used to get Josh Freeman; and during their second-round pick, that they traded to the Browns, LeSean McCoy was still available. Which means that instead of having Farve for one season and Sanchez since then, the Jets could have a starting roster with Freeman, McCoy, and Tate. All those bad transactions were only screw ups at the quarterback position! If I went through the entire team I'd have to write a book. What are their needs this season? Where should I begin?Let's ignore the QB situation since Sanchez is getting paid $8.25 million in guaranteed money. Their RB Shonn Greene did a good job last season but is now gone. Last season they attempted 494 rushes (6th in the NFL) but managed to rack up 3.8 yards per carry (23rd in the NFL). The Jets must also replace the large gap in the offense left behind by the departure of TE Dustin Keller. Their other notable losses include defensive end Mike DeVito, and safeties Yeremiah Bell and LaRon Landry. To add insult to injury, the Jets started this off-season $19.4 over the salary cap and may not even be able to afford their draft picks. Actually, due to their salary cap issues, they may have to trade away their top picks for future picks. Let's face it, the New York Jets are the NFL's biggest joke.
