If your the Chicago Bears why would you hire Tim Ruskell to be your new general manager?  Why would the Bears fire Jerry Angelo only to hire one of his lieutenants; a guy who was ran out of Seattle for his terrible personal decisions. Angelo wasn’t the greatest GM in the NFL, but he is light years above what Ruskell would bring to the table. Ruskell took over a semi young Seahawk Super Bowl caliber roster in 2005 and within 3 season the Seahawks were a dismal 4-12 team.  Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun Times takes a look at Ruskell’s 5 drafts while he was in Seattle. If you notice non of Ruskells 4 first round picks are no longer on the team.  Neither is Deon Branch; who Ruskell traded a first pick for in 2007. Ruskell always forced out Mike Holmgren. Bad draft picks and letting players like Steve Hutchinson leave in free agency are exactly the reasons why the Bears shouldn’t Ruskell. If the Bears decided to hire Ruskell to be their GM; this would set the Bears back...

  • Let's be realistic. The Bears "brass" at Halas Hall has never been in a rush to fill any position. Sure, they will leak alot of promising names to the media, but will drag their feet in making a decision until anyone of quality is hired by another team. Let's face facts and stop the dog and pony show and name Ruskell the GM. Really can't imagine anyone being given the job of complete authority over a football franchise with the first order of business being ordered to retain the current head coach. This is not a slam against Smith, (even though personally I feel he has overstayed his welcome) his record should stand on it's own. While expressing their interest to the new GM of trying to hold onto some continuity, it should not be dictated to that person as a condition of acceptance of the job. Unless of course, the new GM has the same philosophy of run, run, pass then punt. The game has simply evolved too much since the hey days of "Tampa Bay" and it's merry band of assistant coaches.
