The Buccaneers are going into the 2013 free agency period with around $30 million of cap space. But Tampa Bay needs to be smart with their money and limit their “splash” signings. The signings of Vincent Jackson and Carl Nicks made noise around the league. Another that the team had hoped would be a splash as well was cornerback Eric Wright and after this past season, the Wright signing was short of being any type of splash. With pressing needs across the secondary, the Buccaneers can’t afford to invest so much money in free agents as they did last season with hopes of repeating what they got with Jackson and Nicks. But it sounds like the team will be prime players in free agency in 2013. “We’ve got a chance to be (heavily) involved in free agency again,” general manager Mark Dominik said via the Tampa Tribune. “But we also have a chance to try to retain this nucleus of players” And Dominik is right. There are several players set to hit free agency in which the Bucs need to make a decision on. The team lacked depth in several positions. It may be more important the approach they take on their own players as they do with outside free agents. The post With plenty of cap space, Bucs need to spend wisely appeared first on The Bay Cave.
