Since 2006, there's probably no player on the Dallas Cowboys roster that has been asked about Tony Romo more than tight end Jason Witten.
The two are good friends and two of the franchise's most valuable players. Witten, who has made the Pro Bowl seven times, was asked about Romo on Monday for a story in the Abilene Reporter-News. As usual, Witten praised Romo after mentioning the high expectations a quarterback faces when following in the footsteps of Hall of Famers like Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman.
"He's a phenomenal, cool quarterback," Witten said of Romo. "He's an elite quarterback. But until we win the big game, the criticism is going to come. We understand that, and we have high expectations. Tony is a phenomenal player and a phenomenal player for our football team."
Romo had a very good season in 2011, throwing 31 touchdown passes and only 10 interceptions. In fact, he was so good that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has repeatedly explained how missing the playoffs was one of the most disappointing things to happen to him since purchasing the franchise in 1989. Jones' explanation is that Romo was playing at a level that could've given the Cowboys a chance to make a run at the Super Bowl.
But an 8-8 finish left the Cowboys out of the postseason for the third time in four years, something that gets blamed on Romo more than any other Cowboys player.
"That's part of playing that position," Witten said. "He's a great player. Look at what he did 31 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was up there among the top five in quarterbacks this year. That's just the way it goes. You can't cry about it. I just hope the fans know what a good player he is. Hopefully we can win a championship."

Jason Witten has a lot of confidence in his teammate, Tony Romo. He has plenty of high praise for his quarterback and good friend.
Dallas Cowboys’ head coach Jason Garrett kind of reminds me a little bit of Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra. Both are young first-time head coaches who have been entrusted with championship-caliber teams while still in their coaching infancy. Spoelstra didn’t have all of the talent he now has at his disposal when he first took over as coach of the Heat but he did produce two...
The Dallas Cowboys Running game has been below average over the past three season. Last year Felix Jones gained a lot of weight to become more durable. The problem is he also lost his explosiveness and that is why the Cowboys drafted him in the first round. The reason why most people believed the Cowboys a threat to win the NFC East last year is Demarco Murray. The first game...
Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten sat down with AbileneSports.com and was asked about the disappointing end to last year’s 8-8 season.
“No doubt it was a disappointment — going 8-8,” Witten said. “We had a chance to win the division and lost it. The Giants won and went to the Super Bowl. We don’t need any extra motivation.”

Terence Newman did not take the title as the greatest #41.
Here is the update for greatest Dallas Cowboys by their jersey numbers focusing on jersey numbers 41 through 45.
Terence Newman lasted nine seasons in Dallas, but his final year in 2011 was one to forget. He has since moved on to join the Cincinnati Bengals.
Charlie Waters is still the best player to wear #41, though...
What would the NFL offseason be without some Dallas Cowboys drama and fluffy news?
Not a normal NFL offseason is the answer to that question.
Dallas has been making a little more noise than usual, and after falling flat last year and out of the playoff race, they are trying to live up to the high standards of playing on “America’s Team” but at +2500 Vegas is hoping you will...
Wide receiver Dez Bryant has been making strides through the offseason, and quarterback Tony Romo remarked that he is getting better every week, according to the Dallas Morning News. Romo added, "The guys that really want to be great and have that ability to be great, you can't have enough of those guys."
