YouTube sensation Alex Tanney has accepted an invitation to attend a 3-day rookie minicamp for the Buffalo Bills set for May 11.

Tanny, known by most for his “Trick Shot Quarterback” videos on You-Tube, actually had an impressive college career.

While playing at the Division III level for Monmouth College (where?), Tanney compiled the following staggering statistics:

  • 1,205 for 1,756 or 68.6 percent
  • 14,249 yards  (Division III record)
  • 157 touchdowns (NCAA record)
  • 30 interceptions
  • threw for over 300 yards 32 times

Tanney’s high school consisted of only 170 students. That’s probably one reason he ended up playing for Monmouth College, which is in Illinois by the way.

His videos are quite impressive, and so is his size: 6-4, 220 lbs. That is prototypical NFL QB if you ask me.

Was it his YouTubing efforts that led to this invite to Bills camp? Maybe, Maybe not.

It did get him an interview on ESPN and nationwide exposure though.

The advantages of social media just keep paying off, and the rewards of self-promotion when nobody else seems to take notice of you can be plentiful.

I wish you all the luck, Alex Tanney…even though you did turn down the Steelers for the Bills. (That’s okay, we have a pretty damn good quarterback already)

I think these videos are real, and he is doing some pretty amazing things.

It may have taken a few tries, and Tanney admits to spending 5 days at about an hour a day filming “Trick Shot Quarterback”, but it is impressive nonetheless.

Not everyone can play for Stanford or USC and sometimes you have to go off the beaten path to get where you want to go.

I’m pulling for the kid.

If you want to add to the 1.1 million hits the video has already had, here you go:
