My initial reaction to the 1st round picks was, WOW, and not in a good way. I was upset at first, but the more I thought about it I like the picks.   I was a bigger fan of DJ Hayden than Dee Milliner. Still, Milliner is a quick, big, physical corner, which is what the Jets needed to help fill the void left by Revis. Now Milliner will not be another Darrelle Revis, but he is the closest that was available in the draft.  I’m not upset with the pick; I just hoped the Jets would get DJ Hayden because I thought he was the better playmaker of the two. He is a good tackler and I think he would have stood out more with his play. Milliner isn't a flashy player, but he still gets the job done.  I think Milliner is the better cover corner, which is what the Jets need with the secondary not at the same form as it was last season. The Selection of Milliner Gets a B+ Now with the Sheldon Richardson pick I was shocked, frustrated, and everything in-between. I was surprised that they took him over Shariff Floyd because he is the bigger name of the twom was projected as a top-5 pick, and was said to be the best defensive tackle in the draft. However, I believe Richardson is the best pass-rushing defensive tackle.  By selecting Richardson, I believed that the Jets would be switching to a 4-3. Yet, they stay 3-4 and move Coples to OLB which has me scratching my head. I think Richardson will win the starting job during training camp and help push this defensive line over the top. I’d give this pick a B, only because I think they should have taken an offensive playmaker.  I didn’t like the fact that they’ve taken a defensive lineman in the 1st round of the last 3 drafts, but I prefer him over taking a quarterback. 2nd Round: The Geno Smith pick didn’t surprise me. I think it’s time to move on from Mark Sanchez. Smith was supposed to be a top-10 pick, but fell to the second round.  He is the top rated quarterback from the class, with a powerful arm that can fit the ball in tight windows. You can’t ask for much more in a second round pick. Geno gets a B because I’m not huge fan of any quarterback in this class. However, I’m glad they took the best one. I expect Geno to take the starting job during training camp. 3rd Round: I like the Brian Winters pick.  He is a very underrated guard, because he is coming out of a small-school in Kent St.  He didn’t play a lot of tough competition, but he has outstanding fundamentals. He can play at the guard position and also played left tackle some in college. Brian Winters = Solid. I give the pick an A.  I can see him coming in right away and starting at left guard, helping to solidify the offensive line. The Jets didn’t have a 4th round pick due to the fact that they traded it for Chris Ivory. I like the pick-up because it gives the Jets a starting caliber running back. I’d give this trade an A. They weren’t going to find anybody in the draft that would come in and make an immediate impact like Ivory can. The 5th round pick was one of my favorites. I’ve been a big fan of the Virginia Cavaliers my whole life so I was pretty familiar with Oday Aboushi. He played left tackle at Virginia and will be moved to either guard or right tackle in the NFL.  He will be a backup for a few years until he can develop into a starter. I would give this pick a B only because I would have taken an offensive skill player at this point, since none had been taken by the Jets yet, unless you count Smith. The 6th round pick is one I’m not so sure about. I don’t know much about William Campbell. I don’t like the idea of turning a defensive lineman into an offensive guard. Campbell gets a D.  He could end up being a good player, but I was surprised they took three offensive linemen in the draft.  I would have addressed the need at safety by taking Bacarri Rambo. I know a lot of people were surprised about the 7th round pick and didn’t like it. Believe me, I was surprised too, but I like the pick. Tommy Bohanon isn’t just a fullback.  He can line up at fullback, tight end, and he even played some slot receiver. He is the Swiss army knife of football players and could really have an impact right away. I’d give this pick a B+. The Jets had a great draft getting the #1 cornerback, #1 quarterback, #1 pass-rushing defensive tackle, a starting running back for the 4th round pick, 2 offensive linemen, and a fullback that can play multiple positions. I think John Idzik knows what he’s doing and will get this team back on track.
