New England Patriots hold third practice
The New England Patriots held their third practice of the 2012 season on Thursday. This early on things are obviously still being figured out, but here is a quick head count, as compiled by The Boston Globe's Greg Bedard.
Seven players were not present, five were present but in the process of rehabbing injuries.

Brandon Spikes goes under the knife, but tweets first
Brandon Spikes underwent surgery yesterday morning and before he went under the knife, he tweeted the following:
“Surgery this a.m.!!!! Y’all pray 4 me please ….. #PoWwWwW!“
The Patriots confirmed later that Spikes underwent a scope on his right knee.

The Patriots loss in Super Bowl XLVI was stinging. Players were in tears, clearly hurting. Linebacker Brandon Spikes was feeling as bad as anyone. Depressed Brandon Spikes tweets he was suicidal after Super Bowl loss
How down was Patriots linebacker Brandon Spikes after his team’s loss? Feeling badly enough to tweet “suicidal thoughts.” There isn’t much commentary to add here, but it just shows the obvious pain some of the players were feeling.
