http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kou0p5oI4Xk   This happened 16 years ago today. I still think it was the game that forever changed this franchise. It gave the Red Wings momentum to win their 1st cup after a 42 year drought. They would repeat as Cup champs the following year, still the last time to win back-to-back Stanley Cups. Go Wings!!

Red Wings mid-day news: on DeKeyser, Howard, the trade deadline and Frk

Amongst today's Red Wings-related news stories: TSN's Bob McKenzie reports that Danny DeKeyser may be receiving the kind of "wining and dining" treatment usually reserved for NHL superstars and not 23-year-old #3/4 defenseman in the making, but DeKeyser needs to make a decision as to which one of the probably 20+ teams that have made presentations at Newport...

Red Wings evening news: Quincey’s sore, the Wings are finding their footing and a Frk’n honor

Building upon today's early-afternoon post, the Red Wings' "day off" from their 48-games-in-99-nights marathon hasn't resulted in a dearth of Red Wings-related news. While the Wings are enjoying their time in Phoenix, back at Joe Louis Arena, DetroitRedWings.com's Bill Roose spoke to Kyle Quincey about taking one bullet and dodging another. Quincey'...

Funny fake Red Wings Facebook conversation

via hockeysfuture.com Red Wings young gun Gustav Nyquist has had a busy week.  He scored a goal, was demoted, promoted, and was then a healthy scratch.  Getting jerked around is something that happens for young players. The Wings’ general manager, Ken Holland, started off a rather funny (and long, but worth it) fake conversation over Facebook that included Henrik Zetterberg,...

Red Wings overnight report: a status report and news about Iginla, DeKeyser, Jarnkrok, etc.

I tried to combine the Red Wings-Ducks wrap-up and set-up for tonight's Wings-Coyotes game (10 PM EST, FSD/FS Arizona/97.1 FM) into one entry because that's how the narrative seemed to present itself, but not everything fit in one place, so... Prepare for an extravaganza of discussion about Jarome Iginla, Danny DeKeyser, Calle Jarnkrok, Ladislav Smid(!), Pavel Datsyuk,...

In this rollar coaster of a season, who are the Detroit Red Wings?

It’s only fitting with spring in the air, opening day for the Tigers approaches and amusement parks begin to open that we take a close look at this Red Wings team as they make a push for yet another playoff berth. On top of everything that has happened this shortened season though, the question pertaining to this team is who exactly are they? Are they the team that takes care of...

Red Wings mid-day mishmash: on Kindl, Murphy, Iginla, prospects and Turtle Day

The Detroit Red Wings are spending this afternoon taking their first "day off" in over a week, and it's well-deserved given the Wings' 3-2 win over Phoenix, building upon their back-to-back wins over Anaheim to give the Wings the six points they needed to earn on their four-game road trip with one more tilt--Thursday's game against a San Jose Sharks team that...

Even more about Fox Sports Detroit’s firing of Larry Murphy

We've talked about this at some length now, but the Free Press's Mike Bruendell is confirming what TPLHockey reported on Sunday: the Red Wings played no part in Fox Sports Detroit's decision to fire Larry Murphy, and Murphy's still baffled as to why FSD vice-president and general manager Greg Hammaren tossed Murphy to the curb, citing "ratings" and the fact...

Video blog: Dan DeKeyser to become a Red Wing?

Many believe that Western Michigan's Dan DeKeyser, an undrafted, unrestricted free agent, is a talent that could help the Detroit Red Wings now.

Slightly belated Red Wings Wednesday practice post: steady as she goes

The Detroit Red Wings spent Tuesday by the pool in Phoenix after defeating the Coyotes on Monday night. Today, they flew to San Jose to get back to work in preparation for tomorrow night's game against the San Jose Sharks (10:30 PM EDT, FSD/CSN Bay Area/97.1 FM, and the Sharks host the Ducks tonight). Many thanks to Paul for covering the main points as I plain old don't...

Red Wings pull up another 2 points in a big road trip, extending their streak to 3 games in a 3-2 win over the Coyotes. The Red Wings came out relatively strong in the 1st period. They were applying pressure and peppering Jason LaBarbera. Ian White opened the scoring in the game at [...]

Red Wings-Coyotes wrap-up and overnight report: three for three yields a happy day off

What a difference four days can make. The Detroit Red Wings entered their 4-game road swing through the Western U.S. sitting all of a pair of points up on every "playoff pack" team, including those damn Columbus Blue Jackets. Heading into their first practice-less "dayoff" ince the Wings' 4-2 loss to Minnesota seven days ago, the Wings have gone 3-for-3...

Red Wings-Coyotes game-day updates: LaBarbera starts for Phoenix, Bertuzzi in tough & Jarnkrok stuff

The Detroit Red Wings will attempt to build upon their pair of wins in Anaheim while playing against a playoff-desperate Phoenix Coyotes team tonight (10 PM EDT, FSD/FS Arizona/97.1 FM), and as the Coyotes begin a slate of 4 games over the course of 6 nights, as noted by the Arizona Republic's Sarah McLellan... Looks like optional #Coyotes skate this morning. — Sarah...

Happy National Goalie Fight Day!

It was 16 years ago today that the seemingly docile net protectors of the Red Wings and Avalanche squared off and beat the **** out of each other in the greatest collective fight in sports – neigh – mankind history. At least that’s how I pictured it in my head at the time. Bear in mind, I was a little gap-toothed fourth-grader rocking a hard bowl cut. My perception of goalies...

Red Wings win fifth straight on road

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Pavel Datsyuk scored Detroit's second power-play goal in the third period and had an assist, lifting the Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the reeling Phoenix Coyotes on Monday.
