You'll have to excuse my "blogger Spidey sense" for twtiching on this one. On a Saturday night in July, an "NHL source" happened to talk to three Red Wings beat writers about the possibility of the Wings sending Jordin Tootoo and his $1.9 million cap hit back to Nashville (which has a full compliment of forwards and about $4.6 million of Capgeek-estimated cap space left), and that same "source" told three beat writers that the Wings may or may not be interested in Maple Leafs defenseman and restricted free agent Cody Fransson (earned $1.2 million last season) as well. This all seems a little too convenient, but here's what the "source" told MLive's Ansar Khan... Red Wings mid-day news: scouting the Leafs, Yakupov training in Detroit and draft talk

As it turns out, the supposedly quietest weekend of the off-season's yielded a conveniently-planted rumor about the Red Wings sending Jordin Tootoo back to Nashville, a solid number of overnight report stories and a state-of-the-Wings assessment from Ken Holland, and MLive's Ansar Khan continues his survey of the Red Wings' Eastern Conference foes with a survey of the...

Red Wings GM Ken Holland addresses his team’s summertime moves, outlook going forward

Red Wings GM Ken Holland finds himself amidst a pair of his grown-up children's weddings and charitable engagements this and next month, but he found the time to speak with the Vernon Morning Star's Kevin Mitchell regarding the state of the Wings with training camp slated to start all of 47 days from now. Holland began by discussing the team's recruitment of Daniel...

Jordin Tootoo Reportedly Subject of Trade Talks Between Detroit Red Wings, Nashville Predators

The Detroit Red Wings need to shed some salary and free some cap space before the regular season begins in October. They could find some help with both issues soon, by dealing Jordin Tootoo back to the Nashville Predators. That potential deal may be in the works, according to FoxSportsDetroit’s Art Regner. He reported Saturday that the Wings and Predators, formerly division rivals...

Red Wings forward Jordin Tootoo spent this past weekend touring Nunavut communities

Via Paul, Red Wings forward Jordin Tootoo took part in a whirlwind tour of Nunavut communities in the province of Nunavut this past weekend, working with a Native Canadian-business-sponsoring company called Nunasi to discuss goal-setting, staying in school, substance abuse issues and job opportunities with Inuit kids, and Nuntasiaq Online's David Murphy filed a report about Tootoo...

Pavel Datsyuk Shows Off On-Ice Dance Skills to ‘YMCA’ During Youth Hockey Camp in Russia (Video)

Pavel Datsyuk’s stick handling skills are well-known in the hockey world, but his dancing skills have gone unnoticed — until now, that is. After signing a three-year, $23 million extension with the Detroit Red Wings earlier this summer, the center is back home in Russia running his annual hockey camp for 8-14-year-old kids. But the campers didn’t just learn about the game from...

Tootoo back to Nashville?

An NHL source has confirmed to FoxSportsDetroit.com that the Detroit Red Wings and Nashville Predators have discussed sending Jordin Tootoo back to Music City. Tootoo was drafted by Nashville in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft and spent the first eight years of his NHL career with the Predators. The Wings signed him as an unrestricted free agent to a three-year, 5.7 million contract on...

Red Wings overnight report: on Bertuzzi, Babcock, Tvrdon, draft history and rink stakes

I've tried to leave discussions of the "back end" of the Red Wings' forward roster alone as, put bluntly, with Joakim Andersson and Gustav Nyquist left to re-sign, the Wings needing to clear cap and roster space and, in my opinion, anyway, there's no way in hell that the Wings will do anything less than give the AHL's Jack Butterfield Trophy-winner as the...

Pavel Datsyuk dances to YMCA at his youth hockey camp

Detroit Red Wings superstar Pavel Datsyuk is known for his fun personality, and while working his “Pavel Datsyuk Hockey School” in Ekaterinburg, Russia, he got a chance to show it off.  Datsyuk danced on the ice to the YMCA song and showed just how good he is on his skates. [Sports Grid]

CNN weighs in on the Wings’ rink financing amidst Detroit’s municipal bankruptcy

This was inevitable: I know that TMR readers are having a spirited discussion regarding the merits of the Downtown Development Authority, State of Michigan and Michigan Strategic Fund's approval of $450 million in bond sales to help fund the Red Wings' proposed rink and surrounding retail development... And CNN's Chris Isadore finally caught on: Detroit's financial...

Ted Lindsay Foundation’s ‘Hockeyfest’ slated to take place on August 3rd

According to the Red Wings' PR department, the Ted Lindsay Foundation's going to be holding a pretty spiffy charitable event at the Kroger in Canton next Saturday, August 3rd: Customers attending Hockey Fest at Kroger’s Canton store on Saturday, August 3 can meet hockey legend Ted Lindsay and other Detroit Red Wing alumni, and support autism research and local treatment...

An interesting quip about the ‘cap recapture’ rule from an unusual source

It's a strange Friday in late July, no doubt about it. First I've quoted a CNN article about the Red Wings' follow-on rink because it is--get this--actually thorough and well-thought-out, and now I'm quoting one Yahoo Sports' Ryan Lambert because he found a helluva quip from NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly. Daly was in Vancouver to talk about the Heritage...
