The St. Louis Blues signed defenseman Alex Pietrangelo to a seven year, 45.5 million dollar deal yesterday. The 23 year old blueliner is not only the Blues’ number one defenseman but he is also among the top ten defenders in the league.
Doug Armstrong continues to show why he won the General Manager of the Year award two seasons ago, as he continues to build one of, if not the best defensive core in the National Hockey League. With Pietrangelo signed, the Blues continue to stock pile their defense. Pietrangelo and Jay Bouwmeester will handle the top pairing, with both averaging over 25 minutes a night. The bottom four is a mix between Kevin Shattenkirk, Barrett Jackman, Jordan Leopold, and Roman Polak.
