John Moore surely seemed contrite, and how could he not be. The young defenseman will not be eligible to play in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals on Wednesday, as he has to serve the second game of his two-game suspension as a result of his blind-side head shot on Canadiens forward Dale Weise in Game 5 of the conference finals. As his teammates prepared to face the winner of Sunday night’s Game 7 of the West final between the Kings and Blackhawks, Moore only wishes he had done things differently. “Obviously, if I could take it all back, I would,” Moore said after Sunday’s practice, the Rangers’ first day back on the ice after two days off. “The biggest thing is I hope Dale is OK, and I just have to get ready for an opportunity coming up here.” Moore’s hit came with 9:19 left in the game, his team down, 6-4 en route to an embarrassing 7-4 loss. Although it was not deemed a late hit by the league, it was certainly a high hit, with Moore’s elbow connecting directly with Weise’s hea...

Three shrewd mid-season trades helped put Rangers in Cup Finals

When teams make deep runs into the playoffs, the one thing they usually have in common is success from trades made throughout the season. I’m not talking about moves made in the offseason, of which Glen Sather made a few (Dominic Moore, Benoit Pouliot), I’m referring to in-season moves made after identifying team needs. The […]

New York fans will save money by flying to Los Angeles to watch Rangers

The New York Rangers are in the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 1994 and their fans sure are excited about it. Unfortunately, if those fans want to watch their Rangers in person during the upcoming series against the Los Angeles Kings, they would actually be better off flying to LA to do so. The Rangers will host Games 3, 4 and 6 (if necessary) in their upcoming matchup...

To Touch or Not to Touch

The New York Rangers were the first team to book their tickets to the Stanley Cup Finals. A four to two series win over the Montreal Canadiens saw New York crowned champions of the Eastern Conference. Their award, the Prince of Wales Trophy. It’s become a tradition of sorts, not to touch the Prince of Wales or the West’s Clarence Campbell Bowl. It’s not the trophy the teams...

Daniel Carcillo Suspension Reduced To Six Games

NEW YORK (June 3, 2014) -- National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman today ruled that the suspension to New York Rangers forward Daniel Carcillo will be revised to six (6) games for his actions in violation of Rule 40.4 in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final in New York on May 22. Carcillo had originally been assessed a suspension under Rule 40.3 for deliberately applying...

#493214937 / gettyimages.comAccording to Daren Dreger of TSN, the NHL has reduced the suspension of New York Rangers forward Daniel Carcillo from 10 games to six games. With the reduction Carcillo is now eligible to play in game four against the Kings.

Which coast will claim the Cup when Kings battle Rangers?

It may or may not turn out to be the ratings bonanza that some imagine, but there is still something special about a New York-Los Angeles Stanley Cup Final. It's the United States' top two markets squaring off in a clash of cultures and coasts. The Rangers have the history, with a litany of past stars and nearly a century of tradition. But the Kings have the more notable...

Marty St. Louis, Brad Richards return to Cup finals

Ten years past is really a hockey lifetime for Marty St. Louis and Brad Richards, who have both spoken of their playoff naiveté when their Lightning won the Stanley Cup in 2004. Veterans now — Richards is 34 and St. Louis turns 39 on June 18, which would just happen to be Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals (if necessary) in which their Rangers will play — the longtime friends...

Daniel Carcillo Suspension Reduced

New York Rangers forward Daniel Carcillo might have the chance to play in the Stanley Cup Final despite his initial 10-game suspension for making contact with an official during Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Carcillo received a game misconduct after elbowing linesman Scott Driscoll. It is stated in the NHL rulebook that this infraction carries an automatic 10-game suspension...

2014 Stanley Cup Final: News, Notes From Kings-Rangers Media Day

The New York Rangers and Los Angeles Kings both practiced Tuesday as they make final preparations for Game 1 of the 2014 Stanley Cup Final at Staples Center on Wednesday night. After the practice sessions, players and head coaches from both teams met with reporters for the league’s official Cup Final media day. Here are some news and notes from the availability: –Rangers forward...

Assessing the Rangers and Kings goal scoring abilities

Popular perception is that the Rangers can’t score and the Kings can. It’s a reason that many of the talking heads have picked the Kings to beat the Rangers. I would suspect that Marian Gaborik‘s 12 goals, Jeff Carter‘s nine, and Tyler Toffoli‘s eight have something to do with that. The fact that the Kings have advanced to the Stanley Cup Final despite below average goaltending...

VIDEO: Kings, Rangers Engaged In Epic Brawl During Last Playoff Series

If the 2014 Stanley Cup Final between the Los Angeles Kings and New York Rangers is as exciting as the teams’ playoff series in 1981, hockey fans are in for a real treat. They met in the preliminary round of the playoffs that season and New York won the Best-of-5 3-1. The series will be remembered for an epic bench-clearing brawl that happened in Game 2 at the Great Western Forum...

Rangers to Use Disrespect As Motivation

It’s less than 24-hours since the Kings sent the Blackhawks to the 2014 postseason graveyard, but the pundits have already coronated the team from La La Land as the 2014 Stanley Cup Champs. A quick glance around the national media websites indicates a very heavy Los Angeles bias. Kings in five. Kings in six. Kings in seven. Ummm, guys? There’s sort of another team playing in...

In the reminder department, part 1: Here’s the Stanley Cup Final’s sked

In case you have forgotten or were unaware, the NHL asked me to remind you... 2014 STANLEY CUP FINAL TO START WEDNESDAY NEW YORK (June 1, 2014) – The National Hockey League today announced further schedule information, including starting times and television information, for the 2014 Stanley Cup Final, which begins Wednesday, June 4. Based on their superior regular...

LAK Or NYR?

from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, The New York Rangers will write quite the story if they can capture their first Stanley Cup in 20 years. Because unless you're been living under an Eastern rock this past year, you know that the Los Angeles Kings are favorites, surviving the journey in the much deeper Western Conference -- aka Big Boy hockey. The Kings beat San Jose, Anaheim...
