Per Ryan Rishaug, the Rangers have placed forward Arron Asham and goalie Martin Biron on waivers. Asham, who had a strong camp and preseason, has struggled a bit out of the gate, but then again so has pretty much everyone. Biron was solid in the first period in St. Louis, but let in a pair of softies in the second that eventually saw him yanked from the game.
Waiving Biron creates a need for a backup goaltender, so expect Cam Talbot to be recalled relatively soon. As for Asham, the Rangers already have 13 forwards on the roster, so a replacement is not needed.
Of course, the Rangers could just see if there are any takers for them to shed some salary. They waived Todd White and Aaron Voros a lot while they were with the club a few years ago, but they were never sent to the AHL.

Veteran goalie Martin Biron and rugged forward Arron Asham are being assigned by the New York Rangers to Hartford of the AHL after clearing waivers.
The moves were announced on Tuesday, one day after the players were placed on waivers following New York's rough 1-4 start to the season. The Rangers recalled center J.T. Miller and goalie Cam Talbot from Hartford to replace them...
Per Pierre LeBrun, both Arron Asham and Martin Biron have cleared waivers. Both will be (have not at the moment) assigned to the Hartford Wolfpack of the AHL. However, Biron has hinted he might retire instead. Can’t blame him, he’s got a family to think about.
The Rangers have placed Aarom Asham and Martin Biron on waivers.
Both Asham and Biron are in the final year of their contracts, Asham with a cap hit of $1 million and Biron at $1.3 million. If they pass through waivers and are sent down, Asham would count $75K and Biron $375K against the cap.
The Biron move does not surprise me at all. From the Rangers flirtation with Johan...
Per Pat Leonard, the Rangers have placed concussed winger Rick Nash on injured reserve. The move is a paperwork move, and it allows the Rangers an extra roster spot to call up an additional forward for Wednesday’s game in Washington after waiving Arron Asham.
It is expected that the Rangers will call up one or both of J.T. Miller and Chris Kreider.
Note that this is not LTIR, the...
No one said it would be easy. The New York Rangers opened the season in the teeth of the Western Conference, miles away from home and, apparently, miles away from ready. They completed the swing with four games in six nights – three against legitimate Cup contenders – with the final one coming last night in St. Louis against a polished Blues team.
Brad Richards was one of the...
One or both of Miller and Kreider are expected to be recalled today.
After Arron Asham and Martin Biron were placed on waivers yesterday, there was a lot of discussion about what moves the Rangers would be making. I heard everything from a trade (no specifics, just “they are going to make a trade”) to a much more rational call up. In my humble opinion, the Rangers aren’t going...
Five games are hardly enough of a sample size to evaluate much of anything — not the players, not the coaches, and not the system. With that said, I think we’ve seen enough by now to not have our heads in the sand with where this team is at physically and mentally. While I expected the Rangers to have some growing pains in the early goings, I never expected them to be this bad...
from Andrew Gross of Ranger Rants,
As was indicated after Saturday’s 5-3 loss at St. Louis, the Rangers certainly do have questions about Marty Biron’s suitability to be their backup goalie this season.
GM Glen Sather said today as the Rangers began their noon practice that Biron and right wing Arron Asham are indeed both on waivers today. There is a 24-hour period prior...
The New York Rangers are off to a simply abysmal start with a 1-4-0 record and a minus-16 goal differential so something has to change. On Monday GM Glen Sather made the first moves. Joining the waiver wire on Monday were forward Arron Asham as well as veteran backup goaltender Martin Biron. Biron being cut is a surprise even though his numbers are as bad as you'll see in the...
Monday was a tough day for the Rangers and they didn’t even play a game.
Coach Alain Vigneault said after practice in Greenburgh that right wing Rick Nash “is still feeling some symptoms” from Tuesday’s concussion in San Jose and the team placed Nash on injured reserve.
“Until I hear otherwise I don’t expect him back” Vigneault said.
Nash has missed two games already...
According to sources including ESPN the New York Rangers have place Rick Nash on the injured reserve list.
After being the subject of a high hit from Brad Stuart, defenseman of the San Jose Sharks, Rick Nash is still not skating after nearly a week. This however is not the worst part. Rangers coach Alain Vigneault explained, according to the team’s Twitter account that...
October 15th, 1993, The Aud, Buffalo, NY: The Rangers took on the Sabres in Northern, NY looking for their third consecutive win. After his relief appearance helped the Rangers climb out of a three goal deficit, backstopping the Rangers to all three wins thus far; Glenn Healy was back in net. With the Rangers power […]
In response to Cam Talbot being recalled to the Rangers and Martin Biron deciding his future since demotion, the Hartford Wolfpack have promoted goalie Jeff Malcolm from the ECHL’s Greenville Road Warriors. Malcolm was part of the first round of cuts from Rangers camp in September, and then was cut from Hartford two weeks later.
The ECHL has not started their season yet, so there...
The Rangers slide continues after dropping a 5 – 3 decision in St. Louis Saturday as backup net minder Marty Biron struggled in goal for the Blue Shirts. That’s the bad news. The good news is the Rangers did play better and the game offered plenty for this edition of “What, What, What.” What I […]
