The Line Tinkering Begins

Looks like we didn’t have to wait long to see new lines. At practice today, the Rangers showed off new lines and pairings in preparation for their Friday matchup at The World’s Crappiest Coliseum (I don’t mean that as a slight against the Islanders, who may turn some heads this year. I mean that as a slight against the arena itself. My shoes stick to the ground while I’m...

Rangers On the Leaderboard Through Two Games

Although the Rangers are only two games deep into the 2011-12 season, they already have several players on the NHL's leaderboard in multiple categories. Here are some of those stats for you to entertain yourself with while watching afternoon football... - Ryan Callahan is currently third in the league in hits with 9, while Michael Del Zotto ranks ninth with 7. - Callahan...

Lundqvist Stellar Play, Richards Late Snipe Let Rangers Steal One Point vs Ducks

For the second straight day the New York Rangers went to overtime and came out on the losing end, though this time it took a shootout for the Rangers to fall to the Anaheim Ducks.  Bobby Ryan scored the lone goal of the shootout during his fourth round attempt.  The shot from Ryan appeared to be a one he fanned on and got lucky as the puck slid Henrik Lundqvist.  Artem...

The boys are back in town

The Rangers are home from their European vacation, two losses, two points in hand, and undefeated. They now get an obviously much-needed five days of practice before going to (ugh) Nassau Coliseum Saturday, then to Western Canada. They have to find a left winger for that No. 1 line (if that line stays together), have to figure out how to stop taking so many mindless penalties...

Rangers not expecting D Staal back this week

New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal is not expected to rejoin the team this week. Staal has been dealing with concussion-related symptoms that kept him out of the lineup for the team's first two games in Europe. Rangers coach John Tortorella said he does not anticipate seeing Staal prior to Saturday's game against the New York Islanders. Staal suffered the concussion...

Rangers-Mighty Ducks in review

Thoughts: 1) Yay! Skills competition. Pretty serious lack of skills in this one. Brad Richards lost the puck at center ice, and the winning goal was a complete whiff. 2) The Rangers shouldn’t fight the opponent’s goons unless it’s absolutely necessary. So far they have had two staged fights, and each was against the opposition knucklehead. There’s no need for it, it serves...

Rangers stay in line with Dubinsky on top unit

With their European adventure behind them, the Rangers now must decide who will skate next to Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik on the left wing of their top line. After an up-and-down beginning to the Richards-Gaborik partnership in the Rangers' two one-point losses in Sweden, coach John Tortorella did not...

Rangers Escape Euro Trip

By Christopher Decker (@HockeyGuy_Chris) Niklas Larsson – AP There is no need to panic, Rangers fans. At least not yet. The Rangers are the only team in the NHL this year that has had to endure a prolonged European stay due to the renovations currently going on at Madison Square Garden. After four exhibition matches in Prague, Slovakia, and Switzerland; and an exhibition and...
