The Chicago Blackhawks and Los Angeles Kings are in the Western Conference finals after a few bumps along the way. The Blackhawks and Kings are poised for what could be a tight and lengthy series, with Game 1 at the United Center on Saturday. The Kings already have more playoff losses than they did a year ago when they went on a 16-4 run through the playoffs to capture the Stanley Cup as an eighth seed. The Blackhawks? All they did was rally from a 3-1 deficit to beat Detroit in the conference semifinals, taking Game 7 2-1 on Brent Seabrook's overtime goal to remain in the hunt for their second title in four years.

Brent Seabrook, Blackhawks Top Red Wings in Overtime After Apparent Game-Winner Is Waved Off (Video)

You never want the officials to determine the outcome of a game, and you especially don’t want to see it happen in Game 7 of a playoff series. That was almost the case Wednesday night in Chicago, when Niklas Hjalmarsson‘s goal that would have put the Blackhawks ahead with 1:47 to play in regulation was disallowed. Detroit’s Kyle Quincey had gotten tangled up with Chicago...

HockeyBuzz Hotstove: Hotstove: Should Walkom Be Disciplined?

Welcome to the Hotstove! As always, I'm your host, Travis Yost. Brent Seabrook's overtime, game-winning goal against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night pushed Chicago into the Western Conference Finals, but it also mitigated a ton of potential damage caused by an egregious call made by referee Stephen Walkom late in the third-period. Walkom, rated one of the best...

John Jaeckel: What A Finish

Follow me @jaeckel A bouquet of roses was delivered to the Hawk dressing room late last night/this morning. It was addressed to Brent Seabrook, with a note that read: "Seabs, thanks for bailing me out, Steve Walkom." Seriously, before I get to one of the more horrific officiating calls in an NHL history full of them, what a game and what a finish. For all the...

Bittersweet finish for Red Wings-Blackhawks rivalry

Chicago -- It was absolutely the way the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks had to end their Western Conference rivalry -- in overtime of Game 7. For the Wings, however, it was a bittersweet finish as it was Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook who got the game-winner at 3:35 of overtime, a puck that deflected off Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall and past goaltender Jimmy...

Chicago Blackhawks overcome odds, make Joel Quenneville smile

The wave of elation that overcame me after Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Brent Seabrook scored the game winning goal in overtime of Game 7 against the hated Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night could not possibly be measured. The “Madhouse on Madison” also felt the same way. Listen to the deafening roar after the puck hits the back of the net. It’s so loud the speakers could...

NHL Playoff Observations -- Round Two Is Over

Just a few things that caught my eye: If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. I'm talking about you, Brent Seabrook. It's a rare day when you score the game winner twice ... in the same game. Block the shot or get out of the bloody way. Niklas Kronwall is going to be seeing that one in his sleep for a long, long time. Justin Williams...
