The Chicago Blackhawks have re-signed defenseman Nick Leddy to a two-year deal.
The team announced the deal on Wednesday. Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman says he believes Leddy will be essential to the team's long-term success.
Leddy played in every game this season for Chicago, helping the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup. He had six goals and 12 assists in the regular season, and then had two assists in 23 playoff games.
Leddy was selected by Minnesota in the first round of the 2009 draft. He was traded to Chicago in February 2010.
The 22-year-old Leddy, who was a restricted free agent, has 13 goals and 49 assists in 176 regular-season games over three seasons.

UPDATE 7/3: The calm before the free agency storm has produced some rumblings and grumblings. The Blackhawks re-signed Bryan Bickell during the NHL Entry Draft Sunday, and are in talks to re-sign Nick Leddy, Marcus Kruger, and (surprise) Ray Emery. Following the trades of Dave Bolland, Michal Frolik, and signing Bickell, Chicago has $9.545 million in cap space heading into free agency...

Apparently people within WWE were talking that the June 24th RAW rating was hurt partially due to CM Punk tweeting about how good the Chicago Blackhawks and the NHL playoffs were.
The June 24th rating was absolutely hurt by the NHL game but the idea that it was due to Punk tweeting and turning wrestling fans into hockey fans is pretty far-fetched.

Eden Prarie is a small city in Minnesota located just south of downtown Minneapolis. The town's newspaper, the Eden Prarie News, recently ran a story on Nick Leddy and the Chicago Blackhawks winning the Stanley Cup. Leddy was born in Eden Prarie and he gave an interesting interview about what it takes to win the Cup.
