Corey Crawford was already planning to spend today showing off that Stanley Cup. Now he gets to celebrate for another reason. Crawford who won his first Stanley Cup in June has signed a six-year extension with the Blackhawks. Philip Pritchard the Hockey Hall of Fame’s keeper of the Cup was first to announce the news this morning when he tweeted a picture of Crawford signing his new deal. Crawford silenced his critics when he guided the Blackhawks to the Cup this past season the second in the past four seasons for the team. He started all 23 games in the postseason going 16-7-1 with a 1.84 goals-against average and .932 save percentage. He and former backup Ray Emery combined to win the Jennings Trophy for the fewest goals against in the regular season. For Crawford it was validation that he was among the top goaltenders in the league. Now it appears the Blackhawks have rewarded him for that work.
