Boston Bruins forward #19 Tyler Seguin in an EHC Biel sweater wearing the #9

When a lockout looms over the NHL for an extended period of time it is not uncommon to see various players bolt for the many European hockey leagues for a place to play. It is an unfortunate result of the league’s inability to reach a deal on a new collective bargaining agreement. Today we are going to look at Tyler Seguin and his new team EHC Biel of the Swiss League. The young Bruins star signed with the team a week ago following the official announcement of the current lockout. This is of course ironic given the fact that he just signed a new six year deal with the Bruins.

The EHC Biel hockey club has been around for over seventy years and has had its share of former NHLers come through such as hall of famer to be Chris Chelios and former Boston Bruin Jiri Slegr. It is clear here that Seguin is in good company as the ECH Biel team currently sits at 7th place in the ECHB standings. It is also nice to know that the team is incredibly happy to have him. With just one look at the team’s official website here, you can see the large amount of attention they are giving the young star.

The Brampton, Ontario native has 1 goal and a minus 4 in one game for Biel. These aren’t exactly earth shattering numbers, but to be fair, most European leagues use Olympic size rinks which are significantly larger than the smaller NHL rinks. NHL rinks use their smaller size to promote more physical play and contact while the European rinks are larger which are targeted at a more non-physical game with an emphasis on skating and passing ability. The talent level is also much lower in these leagues as the highest level of hockey talent all over the globe is usually found in the NHL.

Seguin will likely say with the club for the next couple of months until the lockout ends. All players that sign in European leagues usually do so with an opt-out clause which allows them to return to their NHL clubs when it is okay to do so. While the lockout is killing the fans and the negotiations are ongoing, we should all be happy Seguin is playing as opposed to just sitting around waiting for things to turn around. For now, this is the best option for Seguin and the Bruins until the NHL is up and running again.

Boston Bruins Fan Licks Entire NYC Subway Hand Railing For $1

A.B. At 28 years old I’ve seen some pretty gross stuff in my life. I watched a friend eat a small jar of mayonnaise for $5. I watched that same friend puke up said mayonnaise 2 minutes later. But no matter how many gross things I’ve witnessed both in person & on Youtube, this takes the cake. Russian soldier being decapitated or 2 girls 1 cup are Disney-esque compared...
