Boston Bruins extend one streak, end another against CanadiensThe Boston Bruins are no strangers to getting off to slow starts in games against the Montreal Canadiens.  Last night was no different as the Canadiens started another game by smothering the Bruins defense with an aggressive forecheck.  That pressure led to multiple good scoring chances by the Habs, including two breakaways in the first period.  Fortunately for Boston, Tuukka Rask was able to make up for his previous poor starts against the Canadiens and stood tall for the Bruins in this game. Rask stood tall in net for the Bruins. For Rask, it was his third win against Montreal in 15 games.  “I felt good against them, but I think I still have that losing record against them, so I’ve got to win some more games,” Rask said after the win.  Tuukka’s excellent goaltending kept his team in the game through the first period and Boston was able to put some good shifts together towards the end of the first period and take that momentum with them into the second. It was not long after the start of the second period that the Bruins were able to get one past Montreal goalie Peter Budaj for the first goal of the game.  A faceoff win by Montreal bounced off the end boards behind the Canadiens goal and skipped past Montreal’s defenseman Jarred Tinordi to Carl Soderberg who was right in front of Budaj.  The goal by Soderberg was his 12th of the year, and he now has four goals and five assists in his last nine games. After their first goal, the Bruins added to their lead with three unanswered goals by Patrice Bergeron, Milan Lucic, and Zdeno Chara on their way to an impressive 4-1 win. The win extended their winning streak to six games and also ended a five-game losing streak to Montreal that went back to March 3, 2013. Game Notes: -Tuukka Rask is now 3-10-2 against the Canadiens -Milan Lucic scored his 20th goal of the season; he has scored at least 20 goals in each of his last three full seasons. -Boston is now 8-0-3 in their last 11 road games, their longest road point streak since 2004   isportsweb | isportsweb - Sports in Perspective

Dougie Hamilton Responds Well To Recent Healthy Scratches

BOSTON — Bruins defenseman Dougie Hamilton is in an odd position for a player of his age, skill level and draft position. That’s made for some bumps along the road in his first two seasons as a pro. Hamilton came to Boston as a top-10 draft pick after the B’s took him ninth overall in the 2012 NHL entry draft. In most cases, a top-10 pick like that is going to a bad team and...

Torey Krug Understanding, But ‘Little Bit Upset’ About Healthy Scratch

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug found himself in an unfamiliar position on Thursday night. The rookie blueliner, who burst onto the scene during last year’s playoffs, was listed as a healthy scratch for the first time in his career. Seated in a suit high above the ice in the TD Garden Level 9 press box, Krug sat and watched as his team beat the Phoenix...

Claude Julien’s Latest Bruins Milestone Another Example Of Incredible Consistency

BOSTON — It’s quite fitting that Boston Bruins head coach Claude Julien won his 300th game as the team’s head coach on Thursday night. The 2-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes pushed the team’s winning streak to seven in the midst of the Bruins’ most consistent stretch of the season. The Bruins have been, if nothing else, a model of consistency under Julien. He has the...

Claude Julien Wins 300th Game As Boston Bruins Head Coach (Video)

The Boston Bruins defeated the Phoenix Coyotes 2-1 in Thursday night’s game at TD Garden to give Claude Julien his 300th career win with the Original Six franchise. Julien joined the Bruins prior to the 2007-08 season, and he’s the second-longest tenured head coach in the Eastern Conference behind Detroit Red Wings bench boss Mike Babcock. Boston has won 40 or more games in five...

Tuukka Rask Earning His Millions During Recent Stretch Of Dominance

BOSTON — Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask gets paid a lot of money to play goalie in the NHL. Like, a real lot. Like, $56 million over the next eight years a lot. So far, he’s lived up to that lofty contract. Rask turned in another stellar effort Thursday night as he stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced — including all 11 in the third period — as the Bruins hung on for a 2-1 win...

Daniel Paille Not Cleared Yet, But Feels ‘Pretty Good’ After Suffering Concussion

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Boston Bruins forward Daniel Paille is feeling good, but he hasn’t been cleared just yet after recently suffering a minor concussion. The Boston winger suffered the concussion during his first shift Sunday afternoon against the Florida Panthers. He took a big hit from Florida defenseman Ed Jovanvovski and hit his head on the ice as he fell. Paille still hasn’t...

Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask makes phenomenal stick save

Phoenix Coyotes forward Brandon McMillan ripped a shot on net that somehow got by Tuukka Rask. The Boston Bruins netminder showed off his fantastic awareness and managed to reach back and swipe this puck off the goal line. Truly a great save early in the game that set the tone for the night as the Bruins went on to win 2-1. [NHL.com] The post Bruins goalie Tuukka Rask makes phenomenal...

Ty Anderson: B's finally make adjustments vs. Habs

I’m not necessarily a big believer in ‘character wins’ when it comes to the Boston Bruins. In Claude Julien’s seventh year behind the bench, the character of the B’s has been established time and time again. The Bruins know who they are. Their opponents know who they are. We, after 65 games this year, should undoubtedly know who they are. And just what...

Bruins top Coyotes 2-1, run winning streak to 7

The Bruins knew they’d be pushed in the second half of a back-to-back situation Thursday night after an emotional game in Montreal. They were 100 percent correct. It wasn’t easy and featured one of the ugliest second periods of the season from both teams, but the B’s took home a 2-1 victory over the Phoenix Coyotes at TD Garden on the strength of a pair of first period goals...

Eric Engels: Carey! Carey! Carey! Habs in a jam without their MVP

All things considered, the Boston Bruins played their best game against the Canadiens in their last six attempts, and this time, they came away victorious. The 4-1 score didn't mirror the kind of domination Montreal exhibited in Boston earlier this season, when Patrice Bergeron referred to it as the Bruins' worst game. Montreal came out firing in the first period...

66. Phoenix Coyotes at Boston Bruins. Show Me The Way To Go Home. I'm Tired And I Want To Go To Bed.

I had a drink about an hour ago and it went straight to my head.  Sorry.  If you haven't checked out last night's recap yet, do yourself a favor and do it. Thankfully we had special guest Pierre McGuire do the recap because Jon, Justin, Pizz and I were so excited about the Bruins ****-stomping of Montreal we busted out a quick game of ookie cookie.  The...

Bruins recall F Matt Lindblad from Providence

With forward Daniel Paille potentially missing tomorrow afternoon's matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes, the Boston Bruins on Friday recalled forward Matt Lindblad from the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League. Lindblad, who is in his first full professional season has produced 22 points (7 goals 15 assists) in 43 games for Providence after being signed out of...

5 Reasons Why The Boston Bruins Will Win The Stanley Cup

The Boston Bruins have a real chance of winning the Stanley Cup from the Eastern Conference (via thegoalieguy) For the past four or five years, the Boston Bruins have been one of the beasts of the east. This crop of “beasts” is much thinner this year than in years past. Only the Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins have shown that they are legit Stanley Cup contenders. Both lead their...
