The NHL Playoffs have arrived. The CS staff is pleased to present you with a preview , a couple of keys to the series, and Sean Keenan’s prediction of the winner and MVP of each series Boston starts it’s cup defense at home against a Washington team that had a rough regular season. Boston was up and down this year, and Tim Thomas didn’t exactly put up Vezina numbers, but with 102 points it’s hard to argue with the results. Zeno Chara is nuts. He is the frontrunner for the Norris this year and for good reason. 52 points and a plus 33 is a great season. Nobody on Boston cracked 70 points this season, which is more a testament to their overall team depth, rather than lack of a superstar. Seguin was closest with 67 in his sophomore campaign, and he is a budding star, but when your leading scorer only has 67 points and you are second in the league in goals for your team is deeeeeeeeep. The Bruins are kind of just hanging around under the radar, and that’s the way they like it.   Click h...

Washington Capitals vs. the Boston Bruins — Eastern Conference Quarterfinals

As the first round of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals of the NHL playoffs loom, Washington fans are wondering:  “Which Capitals team will show up?”  Will it be the team that beat the Southeastern Division champion Florida Panthers 4-2 in the second to last game of the season and then went on to knock the New York Rangers out of contention for the President’s Cup by a...

Thomas gives Bruins goaltending edge over Capitals

Tim Thomas gives the Boston Bruins the advantage in goaltending in the first round of the NHL playoffs. But just because the Washington Capitals are expected to give Braden Holtby his first career playoff start in just his 22nd NHL game doesn't mean the Bruins can rely too much on having last year's Stanley Cup MVP in their goal. Boston forward Chris Kelly says that taking...

And so it beings... Tim Thomas asked first White House question of series

In what may win the "Most Irrelevant Question of the Year" award, some dumbass reporter decided to ask Tim Thomas about him being MIA for the Bruins White House visit.  Tim Thomas was asked if he was concerned White House questions might kick up w/WASH as their opponent. He promptly shut down media session — Joe Haggerty (@HackswithHaggs) April 9, 2012 Tim...

Bruins G Thomas mum on returning to Washington

Tim Thomas is holding fast to his vow not to talk politics as the defending Stanley Cup champions prepare to open the playoffs against the Washington Capitals. Thomas skipped the team's visit with President Barack Obama in January and later said he had problems with both political parties because the federal government ''has grown out of control.'' Asked after...

Tim Thomas Gives Bruins Advantage Over Alex Ovechkin, Capitals in First Round

Last year, the Bruins' postseason opened in familiar territory with a matchup against the hated Habs. It ended in a strange and wonderful new place, though, with the Bruins sitting atop duck boats as huge crowds lined the streets to cheer on the club, and that big shiny Cup they hadn't held in 39 years. This season the playoffs begin a little differently. Boston opens as...

Tim Thomas snubs the Capitals. BRUINS WIN.

What a game. We went through 27 adult diapers collectively at the DOY offices. The Bruins had their chances and just couldn't seem to get a bounce. The defense kicked so much as and absolutely stifled the Capitals. Ovechkin had just one shot. Caps fans are talking about how he was throwing the body around. Great. What does the scoreboard say though? The team with the most hits...

Capitals-Bruins Preview

At one end of the ice, playoff MVP Tim Thomas will be in goal for the defending champion Boston Bruins. At the other end, Braden Holtby will make his NHL playoff debut in the Washington Capitals' net. That should give Boston a big advantage in Thursday night's playoff opener. It also could be a trap if the Bruins are overconfident. ''Timmy's a great goalie...

Capitals, Bruins looking for more goals

Offense was the overriding theme at practice Friday, a day after the Bruins outlasted the Washington Capitals, 1-0, in Game 1 of their first round, Eastern Conference series. Surprise, surprise. After all, both goaltenders - Boston's Tim Thomas and Washington's Braden Holtby - stood out in the opener, and the teams combined for 37 blocked shots, as well. It was a defensive...

Jon apologizes to Buffalo

After the Bruins 4-3 shootout win over the Buffalo Sabres, Jon went a bit overboard during his recap of the game when he decided to do a eulogy instead.Buffalo fans were already really upset that those nefarious Flyers had already ended their season and were hoping their scrappy team could exact a small measure of revenge by defeating the Bruins in the season finally while Ryan Miller...
