Brad Marchand‘s initial reaction to his friend and frequent linemate Tyler Seguin being traded wasn’t anger or disappointment but rather concern that he’d be next. “It came as a bit of a shock” Marchand said of the trade. “I think there were definitely some guys that thought we were pretty safe and it was a bit of a wakeup call that every day you come in you’ve got to make sure you’re doing everything you have to do to stay here. I don’t think anyone really expected Segs to be shipped out that early but it definitely took a little while to sink in.” Marchand clarified that he was one of the guys who may have gotten a little too comfortable and that after Peter Chiarelli moved on from Seguin and his contract he feared that his days in Boston could also be numbered.

Jarome Iginla Says Stop Off in Pittsburgh Was Valuable in Learning to Adapt to New Teammates With Bruins (Video)

Jarome Iginla spent his first 15 seasons in the NHL with one team. Now, suddenly he’s wearing his third different sweater in just six months. The former Flame said his stop off in Pittsburgh was valuable in learning to adapt to new teammates. He’s carrying that knowledge with him to Boston, where he’ll have to learn some new faces. Iginla also said having a whole training camp...

Iginla, Eriksson make presence felt early in camp

Day One is in the books for the 2013-14 Boston Bruins and the new faces have passed their first Black and Gold initiation test. It didn’t involve a pop quiz about the dearly departed Pooh Bear jerseys or Claude Julien’s favorite brand of coffee. It was the easiest one of course. It involved 300 meter shuttle runs and conditioning tests on an exercise bike and then convincing...

Loui Eriksson Sees Time on Patrice Bergeron’s Line at First Bruins Practice of Training Camp

The Bruins skated on TD Garden for the first time since the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday, and there were plenty of new faces. That’s par for the course in training camp with the extended roster and invites, but there was certainly a lot eagerness to see where some of the newcomers would end up. Loui Eriksson, who the B’s acquired from the Dallas Stars in a July 4 trade that...

P.J. Axelsson Helping Loui Eriksson Get Acquainted With Boston, Told Him It’s ‘Great Town to Play for’

Loui Eriksson had some fans in Boston before he even stepped onto the ice. In the blockbuster trade that sent Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverley to the Stars, the Bruins gained a handful of prospects and the highly-touted, but mostly unknown, Eriksson. His play wasn’t unknown to former Bruin and current team scout for Europe, P.J. Axelsson, however. When the deal was finalized, Axelsson...

Jarome Iginla happy to start new era

Jarome Iginla a new kid in the room even after 17 NHL seasons was concerned for a moment yesterday that he might have leaked out information classified top secret by the Claude Julien administration. “Yeah I saw the list there for starting (today)” Iginla began confirming that he will be playing on a line with David Krejci and Milan Lucic. Then he stopped. Had he said too much...

Positives and concerns heading into Stars' camp

As the Dallas Stars begin training camp on Thursday morning at the Tarrant County Convention Center in downtown Fort Worth, its time to look at how things might shake out for the Stars as they embark on year one of not only the Lindy Ruff era behind the bench but also of the Jim Nill era as the clubs general manager. Heres a look at two areas of strength and two areas of concern...

Does Iginla Have Enough Left in The Tank?

We all know the story, the Bruins thought they had Jarome Iginla at the trade deadline, but then were informed hours later that Jarome opted to go to the then surging Pittsburgh Penguins...and we all know what happened from there. The Bruins went on to trade for old man Jaromir Jagr and make perhaps the most memorable run for a cup, coming from behind down 4-1 with 10 minutes to...

Stars start short camp with plenty of new faces

The Dallas Stars are back on the ice with new coach Lindy Ruff and quite a few new players. The Stars opened a three-day training camp in Fort Worth, 30 miles from their home ice in downtown Dallas, and they didn't waste any time getting down to business. Dallas has its first preseason game Sunday night at home and is just three weeks from the season opener Oct. 3 against Florida...

Bergeron Update

Patrice Bergeron is the heart of the Bruins team, and everything, (and I mean everything, hockey, work, breakfast, whatever) is better when Bergeron is healthy. The problem over the summer was, Bergeron wasn't healthy - breakfast didn't taste quite as sweet. But now, as summer comes to a close, the news is getting better and better.     The twenty-eight year...

Bruins see comparisons between Iginla, Horton

The comparisons between Nathan Horton and Jarome Iginla were inevitable. Horton's decision to spurn the Boston Bruins' advances and leave for the Columbus Blue Jackets during the offseason left the Bruins without a power forward to combine with David Krejci and Milan Lucic. For three years including the Stanley Cup championship season of 2011 Krejci Lucic and Horton were...

A look at Iggy

Last season, Beantown, and all of Bruins Nation was shocked when Jarome Iginla, former Captain of the Calgary Flames, made a last minute decision to go to Pittsburgh, and fight for the cup alongside the Pens. Pittsburgh looked very good up until the Eastern Conference Finals, when the Bruins came into view, and well, I think we all know what happened next.     But last...

Brad Marchand Feared He Could Be Next on Trading Block After Tyler Seguin Deal

The Bruins underwent a serious roster turnover this past offseason, losing such established skaters as Nathan Horton, Andrew Ference, Rich Peverley and Tyler Seguin. The trading of Seguin was especially jarring, and it had some inside the B’s locker room wondering if they would be the next to go. “[The Seguin trade] came as a bit of a shock,” Brad Marchand told WEEI.com’s...
