Brad Richards had a lot to smile about while hosting his second annual "Wines of the World" charity event in midtown Manhattan Monday night. The New York Rangers' veteran center arrived at the Stone Rose Lounge with Australian-born model Rechelle Jenkins on his arm and announced the two now are engaged.Richards proposed during the Olympic break while on vacation in the Bahamas, and Jenkins had the shiny new hardware on her left hand Monday night to prove it. Richards popped the question while walking on the beach. The happy couple already live together in Manhattan. The charity event benefits his Brad Richards Foundation, which support families with children in need, and the lounge was packed with supporters of Richards’ cause, including several of his Ranger teammates. The festivities included the auctioning of select New York sports memorabilia, most of it autographed, highlighted by a signed Wayne Gretzky jersey and also a one-of-a-kind canvas photo of Henrik Lundqvist posing during January’s Stadium Series at Yankee Stadium next to Babe Ruth’s plaque in Monument Park.Sadly, this probably means we won't be seeing Olivia Munn hanging around Madison Square Garden as the Rangers' good luck charm anymore.Well ... just once more.

Five stretch-run storylines for the New York Rangers

Five stretch-run storylines for the New York RangersWith the NHL back from the Olympic break, it’s time to turn our focus toward the stretch-run of the season. Just about every team across the league has plunged into the fourth and final lap of the mile, but objectives vary. For some teams, this is the race that matters. They’ll push the pace to the finish line in a fight for...

Report: Rangers’ Ryan Callahan ’99 Percent Guaranteed’ To Be Traded

The New York Rangers and captain Ryan Callahan haven’t been able to work out a contract extension, and for the team to avoid losing him for nothing as a free agent this summer, it appears general manager Glen Sather will move the veteran forward before the March 5 NHL trade deadline. “I’m told it’s 99 percent guaranteed Ryan Callahan will get traded by the deadline by the...

Rangers aim to keep focus with key players on block

Core Four charter members Dan Girardi and Ryan Callahan are both one day closer to the end of their respective Rangers careers than they were on Wednesday. For without any progress made toward signing the marquee pair of pending free agents to contract extensions, management is devoting its attention to evaluating personnel who might become available in trades for the first-pair...

Callahan wants to stay with Rangers, but won’t be distracted

The Olympic break hasn’t changed Ryan Callahan’s thinking. The unrestricted free agent-to-be wants to be a Ranger for a long time. “It’s the same as when I left: This is where I want to be,” the Rangers captain said Tuesday at the MSG Training Center in Greenburgh, where he rejoined his teammates after playing with Team USA at the Winter Olympics in Sochi. “I’m going...

Dan Girardi More Important To The Rangers Than Ryan Callahan

from Andrew Gross of The Record, Callahan turns 29 on March 21. Girardi turns the big 3-0 on April 29. And the minimum term either would likely re-sign for with the Rangers is six seasons, even if the organization, so far, is reluctant to offer more than five. Girardi, even if he’s had to adapt his RoboCop-like shot-blocking game that worked so well under John Tortorella’s...

Rangers' Derek Dorsett should be back to pestering folks Thursday

New York Rangers' Derek Dorsett has been cleared for contact by team physicians, and being back to annoying the opposition isn't far behind.Dorsett's fibula snapped like a twig when he took a puck to the outside of his left skate while attempting to block a shot off the stick off Pittsburgh Penguins' Olli Maatta on January 3rd and was expected to miss four-to...

Sean Avery to appear on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Sean Avery will be the latest ex-athlete to join the cast of “Dancing With the Stars,” according to a report. The New York Post’s Page Six says Avery, the former New York Rangers forward, has been working out in preparation for the show. After retiring from hockey in 2012, Avery began working in the fashion […]

Future is bleak between New York Rangers, Ryan Callahan

Will Ryan Callahan be a part of the Rangers’ future plans? (Associated Press) Over his seven-year career with the organization, New York Rangers right wing and captain Ryan Callahan has become the heart and soul of the franchise. But with unrestricted free agency looming, Callahan wants to cash in big, and that money likely will not come from the Rangers. Larry Brooks of the New...

Hank who? Rangers' Talbot beats Chicago 2-1

Cam Talbot, subbing for resting Olympian Henrik Lundqvist, stopped 31 shots, and Derick Brassard and Rick Nash scored as the New York Rangers returned from the Sochi break with a 2-1 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday night. Talbot got the nod after Lundqvist received extended work in Sweden's run to the gold medal game in the Olympics. Talbot made the most of his...

Potential trade target: Steve Ott

Abelimages/Getty Images North America Over the past few weeks, we spoke how the Rangers might target Mike Cammalleri or Matt Moulson at the trade deadline to fill a need for top-six scoring consistency. It is the only real need for this team since the trade for Kevin Klein, as that trade addressed two needs: toughness on defense, and a right handed shot for the third pairing. With...

Tortorella apologizes to fans for comments about cheering for Sweden over Canada

John Tortorella apologized to fans Tuesday. You wonder how many Vancouver Canucks higher-ups wanted to thank him for that afterwards. There are a couple of points to ponder in Tortorella’s careful clarification of his comments regarding rooting for Sweden to beat Canada in the gold-medal game in Sochi. Tortorella didn’t like his public persona before coming to Vancouver. On...

J.T. Miller recalled

The Rangers have recalled forward J.T. Miller from the AHL. This is Miller’s fourth stint with the team this season, and he has put together a line of 2-2-4 in 25 games at the NHL level. In the AHL, Miller is one of Hartford’s best players, putting together a line of 10-16-26 in 26 games, including 3-14-17 in his most recent stint. The call up likely means that Derek Dorsett...

Game 60: Home stretch begins against Chicago

Photo: Dennis Wierzbicki-USA TODAY Sports The Rangers open their post-Olympics schedule against one of the favorites in the Western Conference. The rest of the week doesn’t get much better, as New York has Philly, Boston, and Toronto following the Hawks, all playoff teams. The Rangers will face this schedule without their leading scorer in Mats Zuccarello, and with trade rumors...

Preview: Blackhawks at Rangers

(Photo courtesy of The New York Rangers (32-24-3)  are finally back in action now with the Winter Olympics in Sochi in the books, as they host the Chicago Blackhawks (35-11-14) Thursday at the Garden.
