With the Rangers winning 12 out of their last 15 games, and five straight prior to Monday's loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs, I felt that it would be out of place to write an article centered around negativity. But with the fan base in a minor state of depression following the team's third loss in the past month, I had to bring up an issue that's grown over the past few weeks and has certainly been a topic of discussion in the world of Rangers hockey.  Last season, Brandon Dubinsky led the Rangers in scoring at the end of an eventful and somewhat successful year, and was a top offensive threat for the club while in the lineup. Through 24 games played this season, however, Dubinsky has only recorded one goal and 10 assists and has recently been demoted to the fourth line where he is getting limited minutes. It's incredible the difference one season can make, especially after just receiving a big-time raise during the offseason.  Dubinsky's performance to this p...

Report: Rangers' Boogaard had brain ailment

Rangers enforcer Derek Boogaard suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy, a degenerative brain ailment related to Alzheimer's disease that is caused by repeated blows to the head, the New York Times reported. The 28-year-old Boogaard, who died in May of an accidental overdose of alcohol and oxycodone, was found to have had CTE - which can be diagnosed only after the death...

Injury Updates on Sauer & Del Zotto

Pat Leonard at the Daily News tweeted last night that although there was no update on Michael Sauer, he did see him walking around in the weight room with his pads still on, jersey off after taking a vicious hit from the Maple Leafs Dion Phaneuf.Larry Brooks at the New York Post says it is likely that Sauer sustained a concussion....i think if I'm ever hit like that I would be...

Henrik Lundqvist: The King Of The Crease

Of course, we’re talking about Henrik Lundqvist. I, like many lifelong Rangers fans, have had the unbelievable pleasure of watching Henrik Lundqvist’s career evolve right before our very eyes. The King was drafted in 2000 by the NY Rangers. 205th overall.  Other notable goalies who were drafted that year: Rick DiPietro (1st Overall), Ilya Bryzgalov [...]

Have a Staaly Jolly Christmas, part 1

(SCENE: ERIC, JORDAN and MARC STAAL are at their parents’ house in Thunder bay, Ontario.) MAMA STAAL: It’s so nice to have you boys here for Christmas, even if Jared is running a bit late. It’s just too bad that the dog ate our turkey…and the ham. And about six pies. FATHER STAAL: Damn turkey wasn’t even thawed yet! It was still all frozen! ERIC: That’s my Rocksoâ...

Tangible Progress – Part One

I feel pretty qualified (even from afar) to be able to pass judgement on how the Rangers have progressed over the first, now almost third, of the season.  Why? Simple really. We all watch the games but I was there for games one and two in Sweden and I was there for arguably there two stiffest challenges to date against the Flyers and Penguins. In between there has been a lot of...

Rangers/Leafs Post Game Thoughts

Well this was an interesting game to watch. The Rangers were absolutely dominated in the first 30 minutes of the game, and wound up down 3-0  midway through the second period. The Rangers had some chances during this time frame, but weren’t able to bury them. After that, the game was all Rangers, as they quickly made it 3-2, but couldn’t get that third goal. They can...

Pregame: Rangers Seek Bounce-Back Effort Against Lightning

The reason behind Monday's 4-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs to break a five-game winning streak at the time was quite simple: the Rangers only showed up for half of the game. Well, I guess that isn't necessarily the proper way to put it. What I should say is that it took the Blueshirts 30 minutes to get going against Toronto, therefore leaving them with a shortage of time...

Michael Sauer Diagnosed With A Concussion; Day To Day

… not good at all. I guess Anton Stralman will find his way back into the lineup until the Rangers figure out how long Sauer will be out. Hopefully not long.

Rangers Become Latest Victim of Concussion Epidemic

By Christopher Decker (@HockeyGuy_Chris) This is the year of the concussion. It has to be. It seems that almost as soon as the league cracked down on illegal head shots, the amount of head injuries has practically skyrocketed. Go figure. And it hasn’t all been the result of illegal checks to the head, either. Now, clean shoulder checks to the opposition are also causing concussions...

Post-game interviews

Not much to report. No update on Michael Sauer, but you’d have to guess he might have a head injury from that hit, which in my opinion was as clean as it was devastating. John Tortorella, in another short press conference, said it was a clean hit. The Rangers admitted they had a problem with Toronto’s speed, but they’ve handled some fast teams, too. The problem...

It’s Go Time!

Game 25. First of three in four nights, and four in six. Rangers still one away from 2,500 all-time wins. Anton Stralman makes his second start as a Ranger, in place of injured Michael Sauer (concussion). Steve Eminger moves up to the second pair with Michael Del Zotto. Erik Christensen remains prucha’d. Henrik Lundqvist in goal. Otherwise, same lineup that lost a five...
