After months of often strained negotiations, Ladainian Tomlinson is staying with the San Diego Chargers. The Associated Press reports that the star running back agreed to a restructured three-year deal Tuesday evening, with financial terms not disclosed. Tomlinson was set to earn $6,725,000 in 2009 as part of $24 million owed for the remaining three years of his 2004 contract, with $8.8. million counting against the cap due to a prorated signing bonus included in the prior deal. The new contract structure is expected to give the Chargers some salary cap relief, with the eight-year veteran Tomlinson recovering from his second straight injury-plagued year and heading into his age-30 season in 2009. Tomlinson rushed for 1,110 yards last season, finishing fourth in the AFC and tenth overall , though the total was the lowest of his outstanding career.
