Found February 28, 2013 on The Detroit Sports Site:
Let’s just say that the Detroit Red Wings did not get the benefit of many friendly whistles in a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night. The Wings found themselves facing a 5-on-3 on two separate occasions, totaling about four minutes of game time — and the Kings tied the game at one on the second of those two-man advantages, midway through the third. And yet, for all the calls, all the on-ice officials somehow missed Los Angeles’ Dustin Penner delivering an elbow to the back of Brendan Smith’s head. Penner appeared to be trying to get around Smith in the Wings’ end, but in the process leaped and caught Smith high, sending the Wings’ defenseman to the ice. Smith needed help getting to the bench, then the Kings (of course) pocketed the game-winning goal moments later. The video of the incident:

Injuries give prospects chance with Red Wings

DETROIT -- There's a silver lining for the Detroit Red Wings despite their injury woes this season. It's created an opportunity for a few of the young prospects to come up from the minors and get valuable NHL experience. Two of those players, forwards Tomas Tatar and Joakim Andersson, were having tremendous success in the American Hockey League before being called up. ...

Holmstrom still hanging around town

NOVI, Mich. -- You can take Tomas Holmstrom off the Detroit Red Wings but you can't take him out of the state of Michigan -- at least not yet. Holmstrom joined his closest friend, Nicklas Lidstrom, in retirement before the current season started. But unlike the former Wings captain, Holmstrom isn't quite ready to pack up his family and head back to Sweden. "I'm...

Valtteri Filppula ‘a Little Injured’, May Not Play vs. Kings on Wednesday

Because a day cannot go by without a Detroit Red Wings player suffering an injury, forward Valtteri Filppula is questionable for Wednesday’s game in Los Angeles against the Kings. Filppula did not practice Tuesday. Take it away, Helene St. James and Ansar Khan: #RedWings F Valtteri Filppula not on ice. GM Ken Holland says Filppula is a little injured, day-to-day — Helene St...

Anze Kopitar Sneaks Goal Around Back of Jimmy Howard to Push Kings Past Red Wings (Video)

Moves like this haunt goalkeepers. Jimmy Howard was holding his own against the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday night, with the game knotted at 1-1 late in the third period. When the Kings moved the puck around his end of the ice, Howard slid into perfect positioning in the net, spreading his legs and hunching over, with as good a chance as any to stop a score. But Anze Kopitar was...

Potential trade dealine target: Ian White

Rick Osentoski/Associated Press The Rangers are in desperate need of a reliable defenseman to shore up the bottom pairing. Right now, it looks like a competition between Steve Eminger and Matt Gilroy, and neither really instills confidence in the Rangers fan base. Eminger has been steady in previous seasons, but he hasn’t found the lineup consistently so far. Gilroy has had flashes...

Gagne traded. He's not impressed. The Los Angeles Kings have traded Simon Gagne to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for a conditional fourth-round pick that they acquired from Phoenix, as seen on Philadelphia's official Twitter account. Gagne skated with the Flyers between 1999-00 and 2009-10 (10 seasons) before spending one season in Tampa Bay (2010-11) and a little...

GDT - Game 20: Red Wings (9-7-3) at Kings (9-6-2) 10:00

After improbable back-to-back (convincing) wins over NSH (4-0) and VAN (8-3), DET are currently holding down the 8th spot in the West.  The PP has finally found a pulse, Jimmy is on fire, and the Chinese Fire Drill in the "D" zone is becoming a rarity - - at least at JLA. Of the Wings (9-7-3) 21 points, 15 were earned at home (7-4-1).  DET are a meager 2-3-2 on the...
