The Detroit Sports Site:
Kyle Quincey made the mistakes and Brendan Smith paid. The Anaheim Ducks’ first goal on Friday night in Game 6 came courtesy of a couple of Wings’ errors.
The biggest came at center ice, where Quincey fired a pass to no one in particular, allowing the Ducks to counter attack. Kyle Palmieri then blew past Quincey into the Wings’ zone and fired a shot that ricocheted off the goal post, hit Smith in the chest and bounced back into the Wings’ net for a goal.
That goal set the stage for a frantic third period (and overtime), which saw five goals go up on the scoreboard. Here’s the video of Palmieri’s fortuitous marker:

YOU TALKING TO ME?
Perhaps their discussing which ride at Disneyland they’ll go on first since Henrik Zetterberg sent this series to a Game 7 back in Anaheim… I doubt it. In fact I don’t think Betuzzi and Getlaf will be trading phone numbers anytime soon after this spirited chat midway through the third period in Game 6.
During Wednesday’s match-up between the Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings in Game 5 of the teams’ Western Conference quarterfinals series, Ducks winger Corey Perry committed two separate egregious affronts to the crotchal region of Red Wings goaltender Jimmy Howard within a few-second time span. It appears that the first one netted Perry a two-minute [...]The post Corey Perry...
DETROIT -- There's nothing quite like a Game 7 in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
Some of the Wings will be experiencing it for the first time when the Red Wings face the Ducks in Anaheim Sunday night.
For others, it's not their first rodeo.
Captain Henrik Zetterberg, who scored the game-winner in overtime of Game 6, has been in a few of them.
"You dont have many chances...
Justin Abdelkader is back from his two-game suspension for the Detroit Red Wings’ must-win Game 6 on Friday night. He’ll be joined in the lineup by defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo, who will make his playoff debut.
Abdelkader was replaced by Todd Bertuzzi for Games 3 and 4, with Mikael Samuelsson jumping up to the Wings’ No. 1 line alongside Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg...
It was an exciting 3rd period in Detroit, as the Anaheim Ducks were trying to eliminate the Red Wings in Game 6 of the opening round of the playoffs. The Red Wings were leading 3-1 and five minutes away from forcing a Game 7, but the Ducks scored two goals within 90 seconds of each other to force overtime.
In the GIF above, I slowed down the Ducks celebration of their game tying...
Pavel Datsyuk has a habit of making the hardest hockey plays look absolutely simple. He did it again late in the first period of Friday night’s Game 6 between the Detroit Red Wings and the Anaheim Ducks.
Datsyuk chipped the puck to Henrik Zetterberg along the boards, then took a pass back from Zetterberg. The Wings’ alternate captain pulled the puck to his backhand, around Ryan...
from John Niyo of the Detroit News,
The Wings don't have many pending free agents on the roster, but they do have a few, and none more notable - or mystifying - than Valtteri Filppula, the 29-year-old Finnish center who has become a lightning rod for criticism this spring.
In this new-and-improved, salary cap-strapped NHL, where nearly every team insists its focus is...
from Gregg Krupa of the Detroit News,
"Well, obviously, we've got to win a game," Mike Babcock said. "I mean, that's where we're at. That's what we'll think about for the rest of the day off, and tomorrow we'll get back at it.
"We've got to bounce back."
Asked about scoring, especially timely scoring, which has lagged...
Henrik Zetterberg saved his best game of the series for an elimination game, showing his strength as a new captain. (Beauty Playin’ Eh, Flickr)
With his team’s back firmly implanted against the wall in game six, Detroit Red Wings’ captain Henrik Zetterberg hadn’t yet found the scoresheet himself.
On Friday night, that changed in a big way, evoking definite memories of Steve...
Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk put the Wings up 1-0 on Anaheim with this gloriously gorgeous goal:
Corey Perry has a bit of a bad reputation around the NHL for questionable hits and dirty plays after the whistle. In Game 5 between the Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings, Perry was given a two-minute penalty for interfering with goaltender Jimmy Howard. Perry certainly earned his two minutes, kicking Howard in a sensitive area. Twice.
You could make a case that the first...
DETROIT (AP) -- Henrik Zetterberg scored his second goal 1:04 into overtime, lifting the Detroit Red Wings to a 4-3 win over the Anaheim Ducks in Game 6 on Friday night to extend their first-round series.
Detroit blew a two-goal lead in the last 3 minutes of the third period, sending the team to a fourth OT in a series for the first time in franchise history.

The Detroit Red Wings will be battling for their playoff life when they head back to Joe Louis Arena to take on the Anaheim Ducks in game six of the Western Conference Quarterfinals with Anaheim leading the series 3-2. Matchup: Detroit Red Wings vs. Anaheim Ducks Venue: Joe Louis Arena; Detroit, MI Time: 8:00 PM [...]
This could be it, friends. This could very well be the last Red Wings game played as a member of the Western Conference. This could be the last game of an all too short season. This could be the end of our stress and the beginning of our summer-long depression. Hockey is a funny sport in that the harder working team can lose. A sport where a degenerate thug like Corey Perry can do...
from Mark Whicker of the Orange County Register (paid subscriotion) at the Centre Daily Times,
Game 7 is set for Sunday night at Honda Center.
It wasn't necessary.
Neither was Game 6, really, but the Detroit Red Wings, spurred by jerseys in the ceiling or echoes from the '90s or something even more spiritual, have done something remarkable in this first-round...
