Chris Kelly's goal 1:18 into the first overtime period lifted the Boston Bruins to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Washington Capitals in the opener of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. After Tim Thomas made a big save at the other end of the ice, Kelly gathered a pass from Benoit Pouliot, streaked down the wing and blasted a shot past Capitals netminder Braden Holtby to end the scoreless deadlock. Thomas turned aside all 17 shots he faced to pace the defending champion Bruins, who dominated regulation but couldn't solve Holtby. The rookie goaltender made 29 saves in his first career playoff game.Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Saturday in Boston.
