Its time for the second game of the NHL season as the Bruins look to take on their new division foe the Detroit Red Wings. The Red Wings are one of the best teams in the league despite their old age. The Wings have good goal tending in University of Maine alumni Jimmy Howard. The Wings also have one of the best, but oldest, centers in the league Pavel Datsyuk. The Wings next best player is Henrik Zetterberg who can play wing or center. The corner stone of the Red Wings defense is Niklas Kronwall who rivals Chara as one of the most powerful hitters in the league. So how can the Boston Bruins keep up with Detroit's fast yet physical play?1) Play Physical. The Bruins need to try to turn the game into a brawl. They have to hit Detroit in the mouth and hit them hard. We might see a lot of the merlot line tonight to rough up Detroit.2) Penalty Kill. Really theres no point to say the Bruins need to do good on the power play. So they need to continue to have success on the penalty kill. ...

Henrik Zetterberg partners with…Mylec hockey?

I grew up playing street hockey, not ice hockey, as the massive expansion of rinks in Metro Detroit occurred during my hockey-playing days, and I started out using Mylec gear. As such, this press release from Mylec Hockey (via RedWingsFeed) is pretty spiffy... Winchendon, MA, October 04, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Mylec President Ricky Laperriere announced today that 2008 Stanley Cup...

Henrik Zetterberg’s late goal secured the Detroit Red Wings a point in Carolina on Friday night. Newcomer Stephen Weiss made sure the Wings added a second point in OT. Zetterberg scored in the closing seconds, after a frantic few seconds around Carolina goalie Cam Ward. Weiss followed by scoring his first Red Wings goal to put the Hurricanes away, 3-2, with less than two minutes...

Red Wings rally to beat Hurricanes 3-2 in OT

The Detroit Red Wings dominated the game but had little to show for it - until they rallied for the win. Stephen Weiss scored at 3:13 of overtime and the Red Wings came back from two goals down in the third period to beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 on Friday night. Henrik Zetterberg tied it with a goal with 16.4 seconds left in the third, after Justin Abdelkader started the rally...

Red Wings-Bruins quick take: trap game, defined

The Detroit Red Wings skated into Boston having played 2 games in 3 nights and having overcome some missteps to win a tight 2-1 decision over Buffalo and having rallied for a 3-2 OT decision over Carolina... While the Beasts of the East beat the Bolts on Thursday and were able to rest and wait for the Wings. As such, and especially given that the Wings were able to "get away...

Bruins’ Power Play Becoming Real Strength, Thanks in Large Part to Zdeno Chara’s Versatility

BOSTON — The Bruins have spent the last few years as one of the NHL’s best teams. They’ve been to two Stanley Cup Finals in the last three years, and they even won hockey’s holy grail in one of those years. They are truly among the league’s best every year at this point, and they’re a perennial Stanley Cup contender. They have done all of this, at least until now, without...

Berkshire Bank Faceoff: Jordan Caron Expected to Be Back in Lineup As Bruins Host Detroit

BOSTON – Jordan Caron played the Bruins’ season opener like he wanted to keep his spot in the Boston lineup. He’ll look to further his case Saturday night when he’s back on the B’s third line. Winger Carl Soderberg‘s ankle isn’t quite ready for him to return to game action, so Caron will get another chance to showcase his skills on the third line when Boston takes on...

Ty Anderson: Welcome: B's down Red Wings in Hub, 4-1

In their last two trips to Boston, the Detroit Red Wings were more than happy to play the role of party-crasher at TD Garden. Absolutely trouncing the Bruins back in Feb. 2011 by a 6-1 final, and downing Boston in a shootout back on Black Friday 2011, a return to the Hub for a Saturday night showdown against the Bruins in the new-look Atlantic saw quite the role reversal. Taking...

Chris Kelly rediscovers scoring touch

Hockey is a game of inches full of heartbreak and heroes. Chris Kelly has been on both sides of the equation. Last season was tough on the Bruins center. After scoring a career-high 20 goals in 2011-12 Kelly finished with three in the strike-shortened 2012-13 season. He added two goals in the Stanley Cup finals but it’s the one he missed against the Blackhawks in Game 4 that remains...

Red Wings exec Chris Chelios remembers his tenure with the Moose Jaw Canucks fondly

The Moose Jaw Warriors' website didn't cover this in detail, so I was hoping that it the story would be covered in some way, shape, or form, and sometime after I went to bed (which was so late it was early), the Moose Jaw Times-Herald discussed Red Wings executive Chris Chelios's return to the place where his journey to the NHL began in earnest as a member of the Moose...

B’s Beat: Bruins Goalie Tuukka Rask May Play Like Cool Jazz, But He’s All Heavy Metal

Bruins netminder Tuukka Rask may play like cool jazz, leave his opponents singing the blues, but he is ALL HEAVY METAL. He sat down with Esquire Magazine to share his love for hard rock and metal especially the bands from his native Finland. Unfortunately, some of teammates don’t share the same love of music. “I love rock and metal,” Rask says. “I’m pretty much banned from...

Bruins Win Opener, Sox Set To Open ALDS

The Bruins opened the 2013-14 regular season last night with a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
