The slumping New York Rangers have forward Ryan Callahan, defenseman Michael Del Zotto, and No. 1 goalie Henrik Lundqvist all in the lineup against the Colorado Avalanche as they try to hold off the charging Pittsburgh Penguins.
Callahan, the team captain, returns after missing three straight games and six of eight because of a bruised right foot. Del Zotto is back after he sat out four in a row and five of eight with a hip injury. Lundqvist was force to skip two games because of the flu.
The Rangers, however, were without forward Artem Anisimov, who injured his left shoulder in a 5-2 loss to the Penguins on Thursday, and defenseman Steve Eminger.
New York has lost four of six and is two points ahead of Pittsburgh.
BEST OF MAXIM
The New York Rangers were without three major names in their lineup during yesterday's 5-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Ryan Callahan (foot), Michael Del Zotto (hip) and Henrik Lundqvist (flu) were all sidelined for separate reasons, but all three were on the ice earlier today for practice before tomorrow's match-up with the Colorado Avalanche. Callahan nor Del Zotto...

All-Star goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and captain Ryan Callahan will return to the ice for Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche.
Lundqvist had been sidelined with the flu while Callahan has been idled with a nagging foot injury.
The Rangers enter Saturday's contest with a four-point edge over the hard-charging Pittsburgh Penguins, who have won 10 in a row.
The Rangers report that Artem Anisimov (shoulder) participated in the morning skate, but will not be in the line-up against the Devils tonight....great to see AA practicing again. Assuming he should be back at some point this week. Will be interesting to see who gets scratched when he's ready. The Rangers also report that Henrik Lundqvist will get the start tonight....he better...
In January I picked Evgeni Malkin as the MVP so far this season. In February, Henrik Lundqvist took the MVP lead. I am back to picking Malkin as MVP. When I picked Lundqvist he was posting a .940 saves percentage and a 1.78 GAA. Those numbers have fallen to a .934 saves percentage and 1.89 GAA. While those are still Vezina Trophy numbers they are not good enough to be...
Update, 11:24 a.m.:Callahan and Lundqvist tell Gross that they are good to go tonight. Not sure on Del Zotto yet, but likely between him and Scott for final defensive spot as Steve Eminger and Artem Anisimov both out tonight.Despite having the flu, the Rangers expect Ruslan Fedotenko to play.Update, 11:22 a.m.:Brooks reports that Anton Stralman and Jeff Woywitka stayed on the ice...
The New York Rangers host the Detroit Red Wings in this week's featured NHL game of the week. These are two of the best teams in the NHL with both teams in the hunt for not only their division championship, but also their conference championship. The Rangers have played inspired hockey most of the season, including a 16-4-1 stretch that started just before Christmas. The key...

Chad Johnson was again returned to the CT Whale of the AHL. Johnson was again called up as an emergency call up due to Henrik Lundqvist having the flu. Johnson has backed up Martin Biron for the last two games.
It’s not often that you see an opposition goaltender steal the spotlight at Madison Square Garden, but that was the case tonight. All things considered, the Rangers responded well to Thursday’s 5-2 loss to the Penguins. That response, however, was nothing Semyon Varlamov couldn’t handle. Varlamov led his team to a 3-1 victory tonight, because if it weren’t for him, this...

Sometimes, all a hockey team needs to win a game is good goaltending.
That is exactly what the Colorado Avalanche got tonight from their netminder Semyon Varlamov in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers. Varlamov stymied the Blueshirts in making 41 saves on the night.
Varlamov was calm, cool, and collected in between the pipes tonight for his hockey club. He was able to control...
With names like O'reilly, O'Byrne, O'Brien and McClement, there was reason to think the Avs might be a lucky team on St. Patrick's Day.
Fans didn't know how right they might be when the Avs won 3-1, despite only 20 shots on the game.
Gabriel Landeskog tipped in the game-winning goal on the Avs' tenth shot of the game. He was left all alone in front of...
