After a rough first month of injuries, the Montreal Canadiens are getting are getting healthy again. Forward Daniel Briere and defenseman Alexei Emelin are likely to return to the ice this week, as per Canadiens.com. Offseason free agent signing Daniel Briere has been out with a concussion. He is now symptom-free and has been cleared. “Over the past five days, I’ve been pushing harder and harder each day. I feel ready to come back, though I’ll still have to meet with the doctors, the team’s medical staff and the coaches. There’s no doubt I’m feeling better and ready to play. If it’s not tomorrow, then I’ll be back this weekend,” announced Briere after Monday morning’s practice. He practiced in between regulars Michael Bournival and Rene Bourque. He did not have the start to the season he wanted, getting only an empty-net goal and two assists in eight games. However, he does bring a different dynamic to the Habs offense. With Briere returning to the lineup at center, David Desharnais is the odd man out. Alexei Emelin is returning from a knee injury suffered last season against the Boston Bruins. He was not at practice Monday, as he was visiting doctors to get medically cleared to play. “He got the green light, so we are looking forward to having him back on Friday or on Saturday,” said head coach Michel Therrien. The blue liner has not played a game this season, but that didn’t stop the team from signing him to a four-year extension last week. Emelin brings some size and physicality to the habs defensive unit, and can also move the puck pretty well. He’s been practicing with Francis Bouillon and Douglas Murray.
