The skinny: Ryan White deflected Jarred Tinordi’s shot from the point at 16:08 of the third period to give the Canadiens a 3-2 win over the New Jersey Devils Monday night at the Bell Centre. The Canadiens used a veteran-laden lineup and received strong performances from Max Pacioretty (two goals) P.K. Subban (two assists) and Carey Price (19 saves). Mr. Pac-Man: Pacioretty opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 2:22 of the second period as Daniel Brière found him in the high slot on a power play. On his second goal at 8:32 of the second period he took a stretch pass from Subban at the blue line split defencemen Andy Greene and Damon Severson and went strong to the net to beat Martin Brodeur with a backhander. P.K. is okay: The Canadiens received a scare early in the second period when Michael Ryder's shot was deflected in front ricocheted into the air eluded Price's attempt to catch it and went into the net off the goaltender's back to tie the score at 1-1. It appeared that the puck struck Subban in the neck but he said he strained his neck while trying to get out of the way of the shot. Something special: Both of Pacioretty’s goals were scored on the power play as the Canadiens went 2-for-4 with the extra man. The Devils were 0-for-3 on the power play but those figures don’t tell the whole story. Adam Larsson pulled the Devils into a 2-2 tie at 16:47 of the second period. That was two seconds after David Desharnais finished serving a minor penalty for hooking. The Canadiens were unable to clear the puck during the New Jersey power play and spent the entire two minutes in their own end. School’s in: Brandon Prust gave Devils rookie Alexander Urbom a boxing lesson in the first period. Prust gave away five inches and 20 pounds to the 6-foot-5 Swede but size wasn’t a factor. Prust connected with a series of uppercuts knocked Urbom’s helmet off and was landing a string of overhead punches before the linesmen stepped in. Bournival streak ends: Rookie Michael Bournival’s goal-scoring streak ended at three games when he failed to score. The Shawinigan native used his speed to produce a short-handed breakaway in the second period but he fired wide of the net.
