Found April 29, 2013 on Rock the Red:
Puck possession is a huge factor in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The team that has the puck more often is more likely to score and is less likely to be scored upon. With that in mind, here is a breakdown of the top-4 New York Rangers centers, the top-5 Capitals centers, and how they fared against each other in the regular season. The Capitals were the #12 team in the regular season in faceoff effectiveness at 50.8%. With the exception of top faceoff man Nicklas Backstrom, the Washington Capitals split their faceoff duties this season among several centers and wingers, with 6 players taking as many as 230 faceoffs. They are Mike Ribeiro, Jay Beagle, Mathieu Perreault, Matt Hendricks, and Troy Brouwer. As a team, the Rangers finished dead even in faceoffs at 50.0%, sitting 16th in the NHL. The New York Rangers have concentrated their faceoffs among just four centers, and one of them was a trade deadline acquisition. The Rangers top centers all have taken over 380 faceoffs, two ot...

Alex Ovechkin’s inability to say “hockey at its best” leads to hilarious blooper reel

(3) Washington Capitals vs. (6) New York Rangers – Preview

It just had to be the Rangers, didn’t it?  As if both teams had not had enough of each other over the past five playoffs.  It honestly does not feel like there are any story lines left to see play out.  We’ve seen rookie goalies stand on their heads (Varlamov and Holtby).  We’ve seen a team completely collapse in practically no time (Joel Ward double minor).  We’ve even...

Alex Ovechkin heads in right direction for Caps
